So it has been about 3 months since this forum bashed the Red Sox. Surprisingly, the team is not as terrible as many here thought they would be this season. They are a team with many first- and second- year players, and they are currently the 5th best team in the AL and 8th overall after the season?s first 87 games. The Red Sox have been the best team in the majors over the past 20 games going 15-5. A number of folks on this forum predicted doom and gloom this season, predicting the team would only win maybe 70 games. If Boston continues to win at their current pace they will win 90 games, perhaps more. The team currently has a wild card slot for the playoffs. Early in the season, there was a lot of chatter about only winning games against bad teams, with predictions that they would not win against good teams. Well, Boston recently won series against the Phillies and the Yankees and beat the Yanks again last night.
How in the hell have they have they done it so far! Boston has the 4th best pitching staff in the majors behind Philly, Baltimore, and Atlanta. The team knows how to win on the road with the 2nd best winning percentage in the majors following Baltimore. They hit for high average and are one of the best running teams in the league.
The biggest surprise to me is Jarren Duran, who currently, based on Baseball Reference, is the 5th best player in the league looking at WAR. He is only behind Henderson, Judge, Witt, and Ohtani, and Duran is the first major league player in history to have 100 hits, 10 homers, 10 triples, and 20 steals before the All Star game, not too shabby.
Halfway through this season, the future looks good for the Boston Red Sox.
