So it has been about 3 months since this forum bashed the Red Sox.  Surprisingly, the team is not as terrible as many here thought they would be this season.  They are a team with many first- and second- year players, and they are currently the 5th best team in the AL and 8th overall after the season?s first 87 games.  The Red Sox have been the best team in the majors over the past 20 games going 15-5.  A number of folks on this forum predicted doom and gloom this season, predicting the team would only win maybe 70 games.  If Boston continues to win at their current pace they will win 90 games, perhaps more.  The team currently has a wild card slot for the playoffs.  Early in the season, there was a lot of chatter about only winning games against bad teams, with predictions that they would not win against good teams.  Well, Boston recently won series against the Phillies and the Yankees and beat the Yanks again last night.

How in the hell have they have they done it so far!  Boston has the 4th best pitching staff in the majors behind Philly, Baltimore, and Atlanta.  The team knows how to win on the road with the 2nd best winning percentage in the majors following Baltimore.  They hit for high average and are one of the best running teams in the league.

The biggest surprise to me is Jarren Duran, who currently, based on Baseball Reference, is the 5th best player in the league looking at WAR.  He is only behind Henderson, Judge, Witt, and Ohtani, and Duran is the first major league player in history to have 100 hits, 10 homers, 10 triples, and 20 steals before the All Star game, not too shabby.

Halfway through this season, the future looks good for the Boston Red Sox.

The payroll is still completely unacceptable, and the ownership group has devalued the brand.  There's no competition in Boston right now, and fan excitement is tepid.

I'm glad you are, but without investment by ownership they're going nowhere.  Three weeks ago they were below .500, and the team is widely talked about as being sellers at the deadline.  They're 0.5 games up as the third wildcard team.

My prediction is that your enthusiasm is misplaced, but so long as JH doesn't buy the Celtics, I'm fine just ignoring the cheapness of Red Sox ownership for now.

Will be interesting to see if Henry allows the Sox to do anything at the deadline later this month if they are still in the mix.

The Red Sox have been doing great lately and are in the thick of the wild card race which is awesome. Unfortunately I still am just not that interested in them as I used to be. Yes, I still occasionally follow the scores and watch a few innings here or there. But again, that's a huge change from previous years where I'd be tuned in everyday and be really into them.

John Henry and ownership have really made me sour on the team, and btw don't just look at me and a few other posters. Look at Fenway Park. They've had a ton of series this season where it seems it's 70% opposing fans. Very loud cheers for home runs or go-ahead hits by the opposition.

People are starting to pay attention to them now because the Celtics season is done and Pats are still a few months away. We'll see what they do at the trade deadline, but I got to say if they have a THIRD straight season where they do this "standing pat or a little bit of BOTH selling and buying", then ownership again deserves to be crucified and I think everyone including Cora and the players will quit again.

This team is still about 30M under the luxury tax btw. I'd argue if they actually made a few bigger moves this past offseason, then hell they could be in contention for the division. But again, they made their choice.

Sox did it again tonight....shut out the Yanks 3-0 and took the series in NY.  Devers with two more homers.  Sox have three guys going to the All Star game....Devers, Duran, and Houck.

I will say, I am enjoying the implosion from the Yankees again. It's textbook with them, get off to hot starts and then falter in the summer months and heading into October. Now 3 back of Baltimore in the division and honestly even the 2nd and 3rd WC teams aren't far behind NYY at all.

Seems so rare that something happens in baseball that hasn't happened before given just how old the sport is, but Paul Skenes became the 1st person to make an all star team the year after being the #1 pick in the draft.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Impressive, however talking Red Sox....Jarren Duran is the first major league player in history to have 100 hits, 10 homers, 10 triples, and 20 steals before the All Star game.

Stay with me, I'm on a roll....Ceddanne Rafaela is the first Red Sox rookie ever with at least 50 RBI and 10 stolen bases before the All-Star break.  Hello Mookie Betts, I can only dream.

Or if they weren't operating $18 million below the tax.

I'm glad they locked up Devers who's been greta this seaosn, but it alos make me angry that they traded Mookie. Both him and Devers should have been sox for life.

Have you been watching? They're kind of a fun team right now. After four championships, they're resetting while letting the young talent develop.

Chaim Bloom said they traded Mookie because they didn't have talent coming up to surround him. I think they're changing that.

The Red Sox are definitely not going for it this year, but I think they will in short order. Marcelo Mayer is having a better year and is projected to come up this summer.

I'm going to remain optimistic that these players will develop. I've gone to Fenway a couple of times this year and had a great time. I think they will splurge in FA once the bones are in place.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.
