The Blazers will send the Celtics a top-55 protected 2027 second round pick, according to Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer.

I hadn't seen this posted but we got a pick for Banton (albeit highly protected) and gave a pick for Springer.  So it really did end up being Banton for Springer.  Even if we end up giving the Pick to PHI and not getting the pick from POR, this trade feels like a win, a single, not a home run, but still a nice deal.

The pick for Banton is top-55 protected, simply to keep with the rules because the Blazers can’t get something for nothing, but they aren’t having a pick that winds up 56-60 any time soon.

Limited minutes but Jaden Springer ranks in the 99th percentile among wings in block% (1.9) and steal% (2.7) per Cleaning the Glass."

I’m not sure he’s a wing, but I do remember him playing well against the C’s earlier in the year.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

6'8" wingspan helps him play bigger.

Sounds to me like a combo guard more than a wing.  A lot like Avery Bradley maybe?  Bradley could play smothering defense even as a rookie but took several season before his game matured to a point where he could be any kind of a consistent threat on offense.  Setting Avery Bradley as a potential comp is probably a stretch, but sounds like that kind of player anyway.

I understand.  Has it been reported if there are any protections on the pick we sent to PHI?

As I said though, even if we net -1 second round pick in the transaction, it appears we win the deal.

I really like the Tillman and Springer acquisitions for this year and following years.

Playoff deep depth bench just got tougher defensively (I believe someone other than Mike D'Antoni once said defense wins championships).

If Celts resign both these guys (Tillman this summer and Springer the following summer) they can learn from and perhaps eventually replace Big Al and Jrue.

If Jrue opts out this summer, the negotiations could get real interesting especially in concert with a D White extension.  If Holiday leaves (it could happen), Jaden maybe in the right place at the right time.

Brad continues to nail it.

We traded the two picks we got in the Grant sign-and-trade + the pick we got from trading #36 for Tillman and Springer.  Not bad, particularly if we resign Tilman.

That kid can do some special stuff on the defensive end.

I don't understand how the Sixers looked at their roster and said "what we need is less defense, hustle and grittiness".

I think they are clearing money for next year.

Excluding the highly protected 2027 Second Round pick we probably won't get from POR, the net of the trade deadline is:

Celtics get:
Tillman
Springer

Celtics give:
Stevens
Banton
Seconds in 2024, 2027, 2030

Fairly sure they could have dumped him on draft night easily enough, or in July if they signed a guy.  I think Morey screwed this one up.  21 year-old finally has a chance to play because of injuries, shows elite defensive abilities, and promptly trades him instead of letting him get the playing time needed to gain some more consistency on offense.

Hopefully the Celtics get back into the habit of blowing teams out so Springer can get 10 minutes a game in the 4th quarter.  Looking forward to seeing him dominate game 82 like Pritchard did last year.

Celtics have had trouble with quick guards getting to the rim. Springer can defend. So if he does that and steals some possessions he’s already better than Banton
