Here's something about him from Philly:

https://www.libertyballers.com/2023/10/23/23926210/jaden-springer-film-study-philadelphia-76ers-basketball

Brad sure loves Defensive players who can't shoot.

NBADraft.net writeup

Strengths: Scrappy, young combo guard with a defensive focus and an expanding offensive game … Didn’t take a ton of threes, but shot 43.5% on them. Shot 81% from the free throw stripe … Easily repeatable jump shot mechanics … Does a very good job of regaining his balance when making offensive moves, allowing him to make difficult shots … Excels at using the rim or his body to protect his shots in the paint by using reverse layups  … Smooth athlete who is able to get to the paint against defenders. Is able to create and take away space from defenders to keep them off balance … Is good at making pull up jumpers either off the bounce or off a pseudo post up … Even when defenders expect it, he’s able to get his shot off … Moves well off the ball and is able to use screens effectively … Can be disruptive defensively, had 5 games with 3 steals … Is a willing facilitator, recording 5 or more assists in 7 games …

Weaknesses: Lacks elite explosiveness … Appears to be more of a 2 than a combo, and lacks size on the wing at 6’4 … Doesn’t possess high level athleticism, relies on angles and reading what the defense is giving him.  ..Has trouble taking care of the ball, averaging 2.4 turnovers per game … Needs to develop more lead guard skills so that he can be a secondary ball hander at the next level. Could be overmatched athletically and physically at the next level. Shot is mechanically sound, but lacks fluidity and can be slow to load up at times. Relies on others to get his scoring opportunities off of cuts, not somebody that will break people down off the bounce.
To some degree the last thing this team needs is another wing who is focused on scoring.

I linked this article a while ago on here, but given the moves today it seems appropriate to bring up again:
Quote
“Everybody here has been really good at basketball probably your whole life,” [Anthony Tolliver] said to the Squadron. “Probably the best player on your team. Probably could get busy, get 30 a game, whatever. That’s all good. But teams in the league don’t really need players to score 30 a game anymore. They got those. They got two of those, maybe three of those. They need guys who are gonna knock down shots, have great attitudes, move the ball, be unselfish, play great on defense, and not make a bunch of mistakes.”

So that’s exactly what Tolliver had focused on becoming. He recognized how the NBA was evolving and adjusted his game accordingly.

“You’re here for a reason, so continue to do those things that got you here,” he added. “But realize that the best path to the league is through a role. Wherever you go, whatever team you get called up to, you’re not going to be ‘the man.’ You gotta get that in your head. Maybe you look at somebody in the league and say, He’s about my height, about my athleticism, about my length. I can probably do that job. What is he doing? Go perfect that. Because clearly he’s doing something that got him to the league, right? Clearly he’s doing something that made him stick around for ten-plus years. That’s how I developed my skill set.”

The 76ers are trading Jaden Springer to the Celtics for a second-round pick, sources tell ESPN.

I assume Sam Cassell worked with him in Philly so I'm sure the Celtics know what they're getting.

Good point about Cassell.  I imagine Springer has good work ethic because we’d have known to stay away otherwise.

i think it's pretty obvious that we've had a jaylen and a jayson, but were in dire need of a jaden.

Jaren Jackson must be coming next year then!

Celtics didn’t need more scoring. They need to be harder to play against.

Both Tillman and Springer fit that bill defensively.

Philly is confused:

https://www.libertyballers.com/2024/2/8/24066475/2024-nba-trade-deadline-sixers-jaden-springer-celtics-patrick-beverley

Yeah their Reddit page is in flames lol about the trade. Makes me feel a bit better about it

+1 if the philly fans are mad, then it is worth it just for that.  Some said Avery Bradley comp, if he is anywhere near that kind of defender sign me up!

The Blazers will send the Celtics a top-55 protected 2027 second round pick, according to Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer.

I hadn't seen this posted but we got a pick for Banton (albeit highly protected) and gave a pick for Springer.  So it really did end up being Banton for Springer.  Even if we end up giving the Pick to PHI and not getting the pick from POR, this trade feels like a win, a single, not a home run, but still a nice deal.
