Jaylen Brown explains why he refers to himself as the Celtics captain.
One, I?m the longest-tenured Celtic. I?ve been here the longest, so even though we don?t necessarily have it written down, the team moves to the things me and Jayson do, Brown said, per Bobby Manning. I feel like my team relies on me to be the leader, the vocal leader. I?ve taken that role, and defensively, being the head of the snake, taking on those matchups, my team feeds off that.
So, it?s understood I guess.
It's kind of wild to think this is Brown's 9th season as a Celtic.
Not only is Brown the longest tenured Celtic, he's one of the longest tenured players in the entire league. Here's a list of longest tenured players active players with one team:
Curry: 16 seasons
Green: 13
Giannis: 12
Embiid: 11
Powell: 11 *Technically he played his first 5 games with Boston, but with Dallas ever since.
Jokic: 10
Booker: 10
Turner: 10
Looney: 10
Brown: 9
Murray: 9
He's one of the longest tenured guys in the league, 4x all star, reigning finals MVP and the largest contract in NBA history (at the time). of course he considers himself at the very least "a" captain, if not "the" captain.
This is one of the reasons I suggest people just relax and enjoy the current Celtics team, players sticking around for as long as Tatum and Brown have is already rare and maybe getting even more rare. Enjoy it
