After some googling, I found out that Queta spent 2 years with Sacramento. He’s now on his third year in the NBA. 2 way deals are only allowed for players with 3 years experience and below, meaning this is Q’s last year to be eligible for a 2 way deal. Is it inevitable that Brad converts his current deal into a multi year regular contract? I feel Q is slowly building value. If Brad waits til the off season then maybe another team outbids us?

I think your research and conclusions are correct.  There would be value in locking him up.  Queta would have no obligation to take a contract, he could choose to test the market.  There is also value to the Celtics to keep the open roster spot through the trade deadline and the buy out phase that often occurs right after the trade deadline so no rush to convert him.

If it comes down to it, Queta has proven more valuable than some of the other end of the bench players, such as Stevens or Mykhailiuk.  Even if we do pick up a vet to fill that last roster spot, I would rather sign Queta to a roster spot (making him eligible for the playoffs this season) and cut someone else.

I just checked Spotrac and they indicate that he would be an RFA this off season so the Celtics would be in good position to keep him even if he decides he wants to test the market.

I agree. I think it's inevitable because Queta should be a positive value add in the playoffs with his rebounding and interior game. He adds something different to what Kornet does. I suspect that's what the open roster spot is for, if it doesn't get used beforehand for injuries. Plus he's a known commodity and Joe has a good idea of which lineups he wants to use Queta with, as opposed to bringing in some random who you then have to figure out who he plays best with. When you're talking about players that are adding marginal value, I think the fit is the most important thing to consider and we already have an answer to that question with Q.

Agreed. It was only the depleted Griz and garbage time at that, but Queta was the best player on the floor towards the end of the game.

KO’s name keeps popping up but it would be really hard to match his salary right? A trade is the only way we could get him. Delon Wright is interesting. Does that mean PP would be made available for a KO trade?

Edit: Sorry, KO’s salary is below the MLE so apparently he can sign with us if he’s bought out. This is gonna be an interesting next few days.

Yeah, we not getting KO unless he’s not traded and is instead bought out (which is possible).  As for Delon Wright, we also can’t acquire him and KO, so he’s not an indication that we’re looking at him as a Pritchard replacement because Peyton got sent out in a KO deal.  We could get Wright by sending all of Stevens, Svi, Banton and Brissett (or Kornet or Walsh), but we need most of those guys also to attach to Pritchard to match for KO.

I think both Olynyk and Wright are guys we’re calling on to gauge the likelihood they’re bought out.  Drummond we could trade for.

We get linked to Drummond every year, I think.  He can rebound, but he rarely plays defense and is a terrible FT shooter.  As odd as it seems, we may be better with Kornet / Queta than him.

If only Plumlee hadn't gotten hurt.  Then, we might have signed Theis, who is an almost ideal backup in our system.
