Delon Wright is said to be available for 2 second rounders and salary filler. Could jettison some of the end of the bench guys and get him.

He is making about $8.2M.  If waived, worth a look, but I can't see a trade.

Correct.  We’d have to send out 4 minimum salaries, or Pritchard and two.  I don’t see there being a match.

Why do the C’s need another guard. Isn’t Brown, Holiday, White, and Pritchard enough?

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Woj has said multiple times the Celtics are looking for another big.

I will be surprised if the make a trade. Buyout seems more likely

I will be very surprised if at least two of Stevens, Banton, and Svi aren’t dumped.  Doing so would let the C’s flll their roster in the buyout market and get under the second apron; which does offer advantages for next year (allows them to use the Grant TPE until it expires in early July, and I think would let them aggregate salaries in a trade next year, since those two penalties apply if you finished in the second apron the prior year).
[/b]

So there is an incentive to get under the 2nd apron this year!!!!!!

That is my understanding.  CBAFAQ was never updated, but I’ve definitely seen those listed as penalties that kick in for the following year if you finish over the second apron in a season, including this year.  What’s not clear to me is if the Celtics are considered over the apron in July (because Jaylen’s extension kicks in and Jrue picks up his option, for example) if some of those penalties apply to the Celtics anyway.  But I do know if they’re above the apron this year and below it next year, they apply all season (so if Jrue walks they’d be treated as a second apron team even if they’re under it, because they were above it this year).

So as to the 2nd apron: I believe the restrictions apply if you try to execute a deal that would put you over, even if you begin under the apron. So for the Celtics there's not going to be much utility in getting under, becasue they'll be so close to that that it doesn't really open up any further team building tools.

Having a fifth guard would be a nice luxury in case of injury, but Wright isn't practical.

Boston will likely be limited to adding pieces through its $6.25 million traded-player exception with which the Celtics could bring on a veteran target such as Otto Porter Jr., sources said. Another name on Boston’s radar: Nets guard Lonnie Walker, who’s generated a wealth of interest from playoff teams while playing well on a minimum contract, sources said. – via Yahoo! Sports

We should have traded for Porter months ago, and then aggregated him at the deadline.

Lonnie Walker would be nice as a bench scorer.

He could be a fun guy to have on the wing, but I'm not sure we need more depth there?

He’s a bigger wing (although maybe not much bigger than Hauser?), where there is a little shallower depth. He’s cheap tho.  The C’s could trade two of their minimums (plus picks, of course) for him and sign someone else with the empty roster spot created and wind up cutting salary.  He’s also a restricted free agent with a low qualifying offer (~$3.8 million) so the C’s could potentially keep him for an additional year or recoup some of the acquisition cost in a sign-and-trade.

I wasn’t impressed when we played the Jazz earlier this year, but I since watched them on a few League Pass games and think he could be a solid ninth man.  He should get more playing time than Muscala, for instance, if we got him.

I guess it guards against a Hauser injury, which fits into this:

What about the starters? I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Hauser moves up to being a starter in that case.

In the event that we lost Brown or JT, we're probably screwed anyway, but I'd prefer Hauser starting over a guy like Fontecchio (or pretty much anybody we can get with the TPE or minimum contracts).

Saddiq Bey is perhaps the ceiling of the type of guy we could land.
