He could be a fun guy to have on the wing, but I'm not sure we need more depth there?

I guess it guards against a Hauser injury, which fits into this:

He’s a bigger wing (although maybe not much bigger than Hauser?), where there is a little shallower depth. He’s cheap tho.  The C’s could trade two of their minimums (plus picks, of course) for him and sign someone else with the empty roster spot created and wind up cutting salary.  He’s also a restricted free agent with a low qualifying offer (~$3.8 million) so the C’s could potentially keep him for an additional year or recoup some of the acquisition cost in a sign-and-trade.

I wasn’t impressed when we played the Jazz earlier this year, but I since watched them on a few League Pass games and think he could be a solid ninth man.  He should get more playing time than Muscala, for instance, if we got him.

These posts make sense - I don't really think of Hauser as a guy we would need to cover for if he missed significant time, but that's probably a mistake on my part.

What about the starters? I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Hauser moves up to being a starter in that case.

Maybe I am misunderstanding your point, Surferdad, but I would say that if we have a significant injury to one of our starters it would be very unlikely we could cover for them with anyone we could get at this price point.

Not gonna lie I completely forgot the trade deadline was TOMORROW. Wow it came fast.

Lonnie Walker, Nick Richards or Drummond would be my ideal pickup. Ideally 1 of the latter 2.

Drummond seems a lot more realistic and honestly makes sense. Just as a guy who in limited minutes can grab rebounds. Remember the recent Grizzlies game and even a lot of others? Felt like opposing teams just grabbed a lot of rebounds and got 2nd chance points. Horford/KP are great but not really at rebounding. I think someone like Drummond or Richards would be a bigger need as frontcourt depth, injury insurance and a way to give Horford/KP some rest in the 2nd half.

If they get a combo forward or someone like Walker though, I'd be fine with it. To me, PF/C still is the biggest need. I know many don't like Drummond but I wouldn't mind. You're not asking him to play heavy minutes, just about 8-12 minutes here or there in case of injury, foul trouble or fatigue. If they don't think Queta is "ready" yet then having Kornet/Drummond as the 3rd guy is fine. Drummond's actually had an awesome stretch over the past month too.

Chicago beat Minny going double big with Vuc and Drummond vs KAT and Gobert. Drummond finished the game with a 16/16 double double with 4 blocks in 35 minutes. He’s still just 30 years old too. He still has something left in the tank.

It has always been the case that Joe inserts Horford in the starting lineup if one of the starters is out. My point is that I am not sure why we worry about an injury to Hauser specifically.

Yeah, and also Drummond has already been averaging around 14 minutes a game. He's already in a similar role and I'd like to think a change of scenery and chance to make a deep playoff run can motivate him further.

That said, Brad Stevens does like to keep things tight-lipped and the fact that Olynyk, Drummond, and others have been mentioned a ton makes me think they'll get someone else we don't really talk about. Maybe that could even be Nick Richards who I like a lot as an option.

Screw Ainge the hater.  He hate's Boston and would never deal with the C's.  Lots of bad blood between Stevens and Ainge.

On a serious note.  Disappointing.  He would have been a good fit IMO.  Another Hauser.  That would have been a lethal 2nd unit with PP, Hauser and Fonteccio.

He's a 6'7 guy shooting 40% from three. If the goal in Detroit is "win more games so we don't set all-time loss record" I think he helps. But.... they shouldn't be spending assets just to win a few extra games. The Detroit front office is not smart.

Correct.  The goal should be not challenging the record again in two years, to which this trade does probably nothing.
