Maxey being higher than Embiid is mystifying to me.  All I can figure is that Philly fans already have their Embiid jerseys.

Been tracking some Jaylen Brown passing numbers:

Last year: 6.6 potential assists, 3.5 assists (per 36 min)
This year: 7.8 potential assists, 4.0 assist (per 36 min)

For comparison White and Tatum average 8.3 and 8.5 potential assists per 36 this year.

Still not putting up huge passing numbers, but a meaningful improvement. Interesting to note this passing increase is coming despite getting fewer overall touches (57.5 per 36, vs 64.0 last year) and making fewer overall passes (31.7 per 36, vs 36.2 last year), indicating he's using more of his overall on ball usage to make plays for others.

That, combined with his improved defense this year indicates Brown is adapting his game to be more of an all around player, which makes sense given the C's have more scoring punch this year.

Am I correct that a "potential assist" is a pass that leads to a shot but not necessarily a made shot?  And assist is when the shot is made?

If White (a guard that plays a lot of point) and Tatum (our primary offensive creator) are getting 8-9 potential assists (per36), then I think that Brown getting 7-8 potential assists is actually really good for a player who is primarily a scorer.

That is the correct definition of a potential assist, yes.

Yep, its exactly what they sound like. I only list potential assists because for teams like the C's that shoot a lot of threes actual assist numbers can be highly variable just depending on how your teammates are shooting so including them can give a better idea of a guy's intention. And I list per 36 becasue everyone's minutes are a bit down this year vs last.

Just for comparison, the four highest potential assists guys (among high volume players) are...
Tyrese Haliburton at 22.5 per 36
Trae Young at 18.4 per 36 (He's having an under rated season, despite his team stinking).
Luka Doncic 16.0 per 36
Nikola Jokic at 15.6 per 36

So its a stat that tracks pretty closely with who we consider the best passers to be.

The Maine Celtics announced that guard JD Davison has been suspended for a violation of team rules.

The announcement was listed as part of the team’s injury report for Tuesday night’s game.

The team did not say what the violation was or how long the suspension is. Boston Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla was not asked about it following a 129-124 win against the Pacers on Tuesday night.

Davison, who is averaging 20.6 points, 9.2 assists, and 5.6 rebounds, is having a stellar season for Maine. He was selected to play in the G-League’s “Up Next” game during NBA All-Star weekend next month.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

THE FIT WAS so good early on that Tatum started comparing Porzingis’ role with the Celtics to that of Pau Gasol, who in 2008 was traded to the Lakers to team up with Kobe Bryant. It was a duo that led LA to titles in 2009 and 2010. “Kobe really needed Pau for those last two championships that they won together,” Tatum says. “Whatever path that I’m on and we’re on, KP really feels like the missing piece.”  – via ESPN

“I think definitely there was less structure last year,” Horford told The Athletic. “And I just think, given the situation we were in starting the season, Joe as a new head coach, not enough time to put in everything we needed to, things like that, some of those things take time. You could argue that you could implement it last year but the reality is that it just didn’t work out like that. This year I think we’re all understanding and really trying to buy into what Joe’s telling us.”  – via The Athletic
