Team USA swimming really disappointing. Won a lot of lower medals but blown out in most of the races for gold?.races we are accustomed to winning.

Just don?t see the next great American swimmer among this group.

Program seems to be a bit down this cycle.

We're getting beat to the golds by the Aussies

And Canada
And France

Swim program is not nearly as good

You can always count on Katie Ledecky, though.

and Simone Biles!  I know, different sport.

My Brazilian girl has come 2nd to Simone. She has a great story as a poor black Brazilian getting into gymnastics in a sport that Brazil is not known for, especially for poor black Brazilians. She opened up for others so much that they got a bronze in team and is falling behind Simone, the GOAT.

Julien Alfred of St Lucia with gold in the 100.  A nation of fewer than 200,000 is the home of the world?s fastest woman.

America gold in the women?s street race. Pulled away with about 3km to go and never looked back. Exciting finish for silver & bronze.

Really neat street course with the finish line shadowed by the Eiffel Tower.

Yeah, that was very impressive to see.

USA men finally get an individual gold in swimming this Olympics. Bobby Finke with an incredible swim in the 1500M final.  Sets a new world record in the process.

I was surprised when they mentioned that, and I pretty much watch all finals... I was like "all this time and I didn't see a USA man win swimming in this Olympics, that can't be right..."

But what a race from Finke.

Congratulations to the fastest man in the world...Noah Lyles from my hometown of Alexandria, Va.  He won gold for the 100m and should also win gold for the upcoming 200m.  I followed this kid while he was in high school, very proud of him.

That was an incredible race. He won by literally inches. To think that as exciting and close that race was, they all would have been left in the dust against Usain Bolt, it just shows how fast he was.

Have been offline for a few days, but the rugby 7's was great.

Almost wish I hadn?t seen Sprint.  I didn?t love Lyles in the documentary.  Comes across cocky and self absorbed, though it also seems like a game he plays with himself to keep himself aggressive and motivated. Being a bit self-absorbed is probably pretty common among elite athletes - especially in individual events.  Hard to know the real person as he always seems to be putting on a show.   But no denying he?s the best sprinter in the world right now.

A bit of a disappointing day for Biles, but still a great Olympics.  I was a bit skeptical of her being called the GOAT in 2020, but I think she's cemented that now.

I was hoping Andrade would be able to take it with Biles falling but I think she played it safe with her routine and it cost her a medal.

A tweet from Lyles after he won the gold...

"I have Asthma, allergies, dyslexia, ADD, anxiety, and Depression, Lyles shared. "But I will tell you that what you have does not define what you can become. Why Not You!"

I love that he?s overcome challenges. No denying it was done with obsessive hard work and impressive commitment. The ?anyone can do it? line is something that bugs me a bit.  Obviously, people can, with effort, manage or overcome the impact of a disabling condition, but you don?t become the fastest man in the world without elite genetics.  Thats kind of a factor too.
