I have always liked Russell Wilson but have not seen any DEN games this season.  Has he really declined that much?

As I understand it, they either need to trade him or release him by June 5th 2024.  Releasing him would void some additional seasons of his contract but carry cap hits in 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons?  So if the Patriots did trade for him, how many seasons and how much money would we be on the hook for?  Does anyone understand these NFL contracts?

If he is released, then I would be very interested in signing him for a couple of seasons.  I don't think it is likely he would want to come to NE, but I would be OK with it.  And I would even consider trading for him, depending on the details of the contract.  I read that the expectation is that DEN would include picks with him just to save money and/or pay some of his salary.

What about Russell Wilson? Things seem to have gone downhill in Denver, and he’s a quality quarterback.

Doubt he’d want to come to NE considering the poor offensive line and the lack of talent at the WR position. I also doubt that the Pats would pay him the amount of money he’s likely to command. They are in a full rebuild. Wouldn’t be surprised if they go with someone cheap like Jimmy G and/or Zappe for a year or so.

You’re welcome to have him, Pats fans.  He might work here — the Pats have no wideouts, and no one throws to his RB’s more than Wilson — about a quarter of his losses this year, after leading the league in check down passes last year as well.  Just get ready for mind-numbingly bad sacks and dangerous throws when he sees pressure and starts running around with no direction.

I talked about the Broncos just eating his salary for next year months ago, and I’m glad to see it’s happening.

He isn't worth what a team would have to pay him monetarily, but I did pose a hypothetical earlier about what value would it take to acquire him.  Like if Denver was willing to trade 2 2nd's and Jeudy with Wilson, would you take on his contract and use him as a bridge.  A lot of money, but an interesting hypothetical if Bill sticks around (if Bill leaves the Pats are starting entirely over).

I certainly wouldn't trade for him.  Now, if he's a free agent, I think you consider it.

Personally, I want nothing to do with the guy, though.

Nope, I'd rather have Cam Newton. That washed up QB has to be cheaper.

Really hope it's inaccurate but some reports have the Steelers, Falcons and Patriots as the Top-3 likely destinations for Russell Wilson.

I have a feeling if the Pats do get Wilson, they'll be fine taking MHJ or a tackle to help out, and Belichick stays and the Krafts let him try with a veteran QB + a lot of cap space. Ugh

I don't mind Zappe as a backup.

But in no way should he even receive consideration for a starting QB role in 2024. Yuck

I'm not sure how many people thought Zappe was the answer. This offense is a demo job, all the way down to the foundation.

If/when the Patriots move on from Bill, this defense will suffer while the offense has to improve. I don't see much improvement for 2024, unless they make a splash at tackle, receiver AND QB.

Patriots had a return TD on kickoff. Then now the Bills are up 13-7. Keep doing your bizz Bills!

Yeah...  Pats need to land a QB.  I think whoever ends up #3 -- Pats or Redskins -- should trade up to #1.

Bailey is not a starter and is most definitely not a backup QB that I want to see in a Patriots uniform next season. The backup needs to be ready to come in at any moment, and also should be willing to communicate with the starter to help him during the game. Bailey would not talk to Jones because Bailey was always more interested in selfishly being the starter and not putting the team first. Does anyone beleive he would help the next guy as a backup?
