Don't mess around. Take the QB, whoever it is.

I totally agree that they shouldn't mess around, but don't agree with your conclusion. I want them to pick the best available players, regardless of position. MHJ and Joe Alt appear to be almost flawless prospects. Olu also appears to be close to a "can't miss". I'd rather pick them over quarterbacks that are not "can't miss".

I bet SF and NYJ wish they selected Micah Parsons over their need for a QB in Trey Lance and Zach Wilson.

I think you have to keep trying to get a franchise QB until you get one. If you have a shot at one in the draft, take the chance. No other position in sports has as much of an impact as QB.  Pats spent 40+ years with OK (even good) quarterbacks without a title. Drew Bledsoe or Steve Grogan quality is not enough - unless you’re hoping for that one miracle run (e.g., Matt Stafford; Doug Williams).  Need a QB who’ll put your team in the discussion every year.  Obviously not Brady as that’s pipe dreaming - but Josh Allen level franchise QB. They have a shot at it in this draft. May not work, but that’s risk worth taking. 

Felger and Mazz were raving about Michael Penix today. They were reacting to his semifinals performance - thought he was absolutely terrific and Pats should grab him at 7 (if that’s where they land).  Anyone agree?

Yes, I think Michael Penix (and Jayden Daniels) should be top 10 picks. Penix was awesome this year. Sure, he's hurt both knees in the past and he's older, but he looks ready to contribute on day 1. I like what I've seen from him in the pocket over Caleb Williams, although Penix has had a much better offensive line and receivers. Penix has a cannon and can move around.

I'm curious how he (or any of these QBs) will do with the Patriots offensive line and WRs.

I’ll come back in here and give everyone a lot of Tommy points if penix goes top 10. I would be absolutely shocked from every draft evaluator I have heard. I get there are late risers but there really isn’t a huge bump historically for college playoff performance.

I’ll come back in here and give everyone a lot of Tommy points if penix goes top 10. I would be absolutely shocked from every draft evaluator I have heard. I get there are late risers but there really isn’t a huge bump historically for college playoff performance.

He very well could go outside the Top-10 and be in the 20s. But I've seen enough drafts where 1-2 guys tend to rise up really last minute and some teams get desperate for a QB. Remember Anthony Richardson just last year? He rose from a likely late 1st/early 2nd to being #4 overall. Other examples include guys like Wilson, Lance, etc.

Also I'm just glancing at the Top-10 currently, I see a solid 5-6 teams that all could be after a QB. So if they miss out on Maye/Williams/Daniel or don't get a FA, then they might convince themselves to take Penix. I think McCarthy and Nix are likely late 1st/early 2nd.

late risers aren't guys like Penix, they are guys like Richardson or Lance.  You know uber athletes that didn't play many seasons and are young.  A guy that you project out to be a mega-star, not a guy that has been in college since Obama was President (and yes that was a joke, but you get the point). 

ESPN has Penix as the 30th best player and the 5th best QB.  I just don't see him being a riser, if anything, I think he could be the guy that falls to middle of the 2nd round.

With the Patriots picking early in the second round, they could draft Penix then. With their first pick, they could draft Harrison Jr or one of the elite tackles.

FOXBOROUGH — Trent Brown still hasn’t returned to the Patriots practice field since serving as a healthy scratch in Buffalo.

Brown missed practice on Wednesday — he was listed with an illness again on the injury report — and was nowhere to be found on Thursday, either. Brown has now missed four practices in the past two weeks with the illness designation, despite coming off the injury report last Friday and posting a number of social media photos from a New Years Eve party over the weekend.

According to the Boston Herald, the free-agent-to-be already has his next destination picked out.

“Brown had dealt with knee and ankle injuries in late October, and had his mind on free agency,” Andrew Callahan and Doug Kyed wrote. “After a surprising upset at Pittsburgh, Brown openly discussed plans to play for an NFC team in the team locker room.”

It’d make a lot of sense if that was the Dallas Cowboys, who are hours from Brown’s ranch in Texas and have high-profile tackle Tyron Smith heading into free agency.

The Herald article today was pretty massive. Kind of like the article posted last year when it described the dysfunction with the Pats especially with them having Patricia + Judge. Now it sounds like there was even more dysfunction all over. Bill O'Brien wasn't really allowed to put his own staff together. Klemm literally had a heated dispute with Matt Groh about the lack of O-Line talent on this roster (which was 1000% true). They had legit needs at tackle and receiver and instead prioritized defense and special teams in the draft + FA. Belichick still pretty much oversaw a lot of things and apparently, he actually wanted Patricia back as OC despite how 2022 went...

I'm really not sure why Kraft just seems to be silent about all this and doesn't put his foot down. Belichick seems to be actively sabotaging the organization and not putting the assistants/coaches/players in the best positions to succeed and Kraft is allowing it, plus they aren't spending as much which I put on the owner since he pays the checks and probably announces the budget.

The timing of this article and all the other reporting though makes me believe Belichick is done in New England after Sunday. I doubt they'd part ways on "Black Monday" just out of respect for his legacy, but he's probably not going to be coach of the Patriots in 2024 and beyond. Mike Reiss also said Kraft and Belichick will have a meeting where Kraft will ask why things went so downhill after 2021 and even he seemed to hint that it's looking likely Belichick could be gone. Reiss is a very reliable reporter.

True. It's hard for the Pats to lose to the Jets than to watch the Falcons win over the Saints.
