LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! THANK YOU CARDINALS!

But boy.... now there's real pressure next week. A loss means #2 pick. But a win could drop you to like #6. And the opponent is the Zach Wilson Jets who you have beaten 15 times in a row. Oh boy...  :o

Why do you think pats get #2 with a loss?

Frustrating that the head to head loss to Washington isn’t weighted more than SOS.

I think if SOS is deadlocked, then head-to-head comes into play.

I think that's right in this case:

In situations where teams finished the previous season with identical records, the determination of draft position is decided by strength of schedule — the aggregate winning percentage of a team’s opponents. The team that played the schedule with the lowest winning percentage will be awarded the higher pick.

If the teams have the same strength of schedule, division or conference tiebreakers are applied. If the divisional or conference tiebreakers are not applicable, or ties still exist between teams of different conferences, ties will be broken the following tie-breaking method:

Head-to-head, if applicable
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games (minimum of four)
Strength of victory in all games
Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed in all games
Best net points in all games
Best net touchdowns in all games
Coin toss

Pats are currently #3 now, but either way there's a huge difference between #2/#3 and #6/#7.

Winning or losing next week will make a difference. Please sit every starter out lol

so if they both lose, it is going to come down to the 3 "extra" teams on their schedule.  That is the Steelers, Colts, and Saints for New England vs. Bears, Falcons, and Broncos for Washington. Pittsburgh and Denver are both still playing right now, which is interesting. The 3 NE teams are all still in the hunt and while the Steelers play the Ravens, the Ravens have locked up the 1 seed win or lose so they have nothing to play for.  Bears are done, Falcons are basically done, and the Broncos can be done within an hour.  So not looking great for NE's chances.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I think the Pats win against the Jets for their 5th win and a top 7 pick. They need o-line desperately, and I think Joe Alt is a bigger sure thing than the QBs. Olu Fashanu from Penn St and JC Latham from Bama are also targets. I like Tez Walker or another tall/fast WR in the second round. I'd still prefer that they trade down for trench players and build like SF/Philly.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Some of these mock drafts have the Pats taking Jayden Daniels outright at #3.

I like Daniels but not at #3.

A lot is also going to come down to what Chicago and Arizona decide to do. Do they draft a top QB or keep what they have? Do they feel they can improve with a WR (MHJ) and/or a tackle, or does it have to be a new QB? I expect Washington will draft a QB, but if Chicago elects to keep Fields maybe Maye can still be available at 3 or 4. Or a team decides to trade up and it's a bidding war.

I think that there's a 100% chance that a QB goes #1.  Chicago is either taking a QB, or is trading the pick.  Same thing at #2.

As a Bears fan, I'm hoping the Pats end up at #2 and the Redskins end up #3, because I can see the Redskins being more willing to overpay for #1.  That way, the Redskins get Williams, the Pats get Maye, and the Bears get MHJ.

While I would love the 2nd pick for NE, there are enough good QBs in this draft not to sweat that out.  My preference would be to trade down a bit and grab Penix or, if not available where we trade to, JJ McCarthy.

I have strong misgivings on Caleb Williams and while Maye has the prototype physical attributes of an NFL QB, thought he was quite disappointing this season.

McCarthy, if he enters the draft, should go before Penix.

In general, I don't like the idea of trading down for the Pats, or any team looking for a QB.  There's going to be a "best" out of Williams, Maye, Davis, Penix, McCarthy, etc.  And, there's going to be a worst.  It's the job of the GM -- as supposedly one of the top-32 decision makers / talent evaluators in the world -- to pick the right guy.

Pats could get as high as 2 and as low as 7.
They just need to lose.  It’s garbage to go all out for a win v. the Jets.  They need sit every potentially impactful player they have.  Full tank.

They won’t of course, and they’ll beat the Jets.

The Steelers and Broncos wins were unnecessary and costly. If D Maye goes on to have a great NFL career it will be painful to watch.

If Pats win and end up 7, they should try to trade up to get Daniels or Maye.  They’re unlikely to get this high in a draft again -- especially one with 3 very good QB prospects.

If your talent evaluation concludes that the guy you like most is very likely to be available at a later pick, it is worth the gamble.  There are a couple of guys I like who are projected later than 5, so that further improves the odds.  Now, if they conclude that Williams or Maye is a cut above "can't miss" prospect, you don't trade down, you trade up (if necessary). I have no idea who the Pats like, who will be making the decision, or if they are even going to draft another QB (or sign FA, or trade for one).  Usually each team's preference gets leaked out before the draft.  Good example is when Ainge traded down from 1 to 3, he did so with confidence that Philly would take Fultz and Lakers would draft Ball.  But there were no guaranties that would happen.  (Imagine how differently Ainge's legacy would be if LA or Philly took Tatum).

Saw a mock today that had the Bears trading Fields to Vikings for 12th pick, which gave the Bears 3 top 12 picks in the draft.  They had them taking Williams at 1, Turner at 8, and Latham at 12.

Maye went 2 and Harrison ended up at 3.  They had the Pats taking Daniels at 4.
