Yao Ming is a cool pick. I never watched much of his games, so anyone who is more knowledgeable than me tell me how was he on defense?
Slow. Dominant presence around the basket but couldn't move quickly enough away from the basket. Had to play drop coverage in PnR. Could be vulnerable to bigs who can shoot & drive. Dominant around the basket.
Absolutely owned Dwight Howard. Dwight could only score at the rim and Yao towered over him. On the other end, Yao's superior size and skill allowed him to get whatever he wanted in the post. One way traffic.
The guys that caused Yao more problems were when a team would move a big PF over to C and put him in PnRs like Boston did with KG late in the Q4 to win one game here in 2008 or 2009. He couldn't move well enough to handle that.
Very good help defender on the interior. Struggles away from the basket. Same as in one-on-one defensive situations. One of the most intimidating physical presences in the league around the rim.
