Philly have matched the Paul Reed offer sheet.

I assume they matched so that they can trade him for an asset at a later date. Not because they want 3 backup centers behind Embiid.

Trading P Reed for a decent bench forward would be a good plan. No depth at forward with McDaniels and Niang leaving. Plenty of depth at center with Mo Bamba and M Harrell. They could get a decent player in return for P Reed.
Just to reiterate from earlier in this thread, I think? Reed can now veto any trade for a year now, and he can't be traded to the Jazz at all.

Ah okay. So no trade this season.

I'd also point out that I'm not sure Bamba and Harrell counts as good depth. The idea of Bamba is good, but he actually has similar effectiveness to Kornet. Harrell isn't a positive anymore. Plus, neither can play with Embiid effectively.
Even Doc realized Harrell wasn't cutting it as backup C and stopped playing him after January except garbage time.  Reed is the best backup they've had for Embiid.

I am happy with Kornet over Bamba.  Maybe he will turn things around 180 degrees but you don't know.  I have my doubts.  In the meantime, Kornet is what he is.  I would be happy to see an upgrade come in (maybe Wood could be that) but Bamba is not that.

If all else is equal we have to admit bamba has more upside than kornet given that if nothing else he is three years younger and has had a less mediocre track record when he has played.

If they had waived Kornet and signed Bamba, it would be such a minor rearrangement of some deck chairs that I would not be that worried about it.  And who knows, maybe we did make an offer to Bamba but he liked PHI better.  It seems that Bamba should be better than he is.  I think it is telling that he hardly played for LAL, a team in desperate need of depth.  What a missed opportunity for him to show the Lakers and the league something in a contract year.

Isn't Bamba's only real specialty his outside shooting? If we already have Horford on the bench to provide that, how much do we need Bamba? I suppose you could say, well what's Kornet's specialty besides the Kornet contest and self-deprecating humor? I would respond that there's some value in familiarity with the system and being an all-around, consistent player.

It's too bad, because for a long time it seemed like Bamba might still be able to reach his potential as a sixth overall pick.

Mo Bamba's speciality is his defense. He is a good defender. He should be a great defender but he is not dedicated to his craft so he hasn't fulfilled his potential. Despite that, he is still a quality defensive player and rebounder.

His offense is weaker. His jump-shot holds him back more than it helps him. If he would just roll hard to the rim like JaVale McGee, he'd help his team more than standing out at the three point line.

Kornet cannot play defense like Mo Bamba can. They are not in the same stratosphere.

I guess it would have been worth a shot but Philly obviously offered more playing time in the primary backup C role. Meanwhile, it's not even clear how the Celtics are going to juggle Porzingis/Rob/Horford.

Sixers match Paul Reed's offer from Utah (3yr/24M).   Good move on their part.
Weird bunch of big men over there. Embiid is obviously an MVP level, top 2 big in the league. I think Bamba is a decent enough 2nd string big - super high level 3rd string big. Reed is a high level 3rd string big, who can be an ok 2nd string big in the right matchup. Harrell is an okay 3rd string big.

What does their big man rotation look like? You wouldn't want any of these guys playing the 4, would you?
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

The Indiana Pacers have emerged as a legitimate trade partner with the Toronto Raptors for Pascal Siakam, sources tell Marc Stein of Substack.

Siakam is entering the final season of his contract and reports of his potential availability have increased.

The Atlanta Hawks have also logged interest in Siakam, while other teams could also emerge.

Ooh, wow. That would be an incredible addition for Indiana. Tyrese Haliburton, Mathurin, Siakam, Myles Turner. That is big time.

I don't know if it is quite enough to put them into title contention in the East but it is getting close.

I am guessing Buddy Hield is needed to match contracts. I am not sure what Toronto can expect to get for Siakam. He is an expiring contract. Maybe 2 first round picks. A lower level prospect. Would Indy give up J Walker & Bield for Siakam? Keep their future picks. Or would they hold out and only offer future picks. They have Theis and Jalen Smith for matching contracts as well.

Siakam's expiring contract will hurt his trade value.

Indy got Bruce Brown Jr on that team too. That is a good ball club. Might be a title contender with Siakam.

G: Haliburton, McConnell
G: Nembhard, Mathurin
F: B Brown, Nesmith / Nwora
F: Siakam, O Toppin
C: M Turner, (free agent)

I don't think you can get Siakim, expiring contract or not, without at least including Walker or Mathurin in the deal. I would guess it's Walker because he was only just drafted and plays the same position as Siakim. I'm sure the Raptors would also be interested in Nembhard since they need young guard talent. The Raptors are notorious for asking for a king's ransom for their players, but the Pacers are operating under a lot of confidence right now and I'm sure they think Siakim will re-sign. As a foreign player, he doesn't seem like the type that would care about small or big markets, just the opportunity to compete and of course a max deal which the Pacers would give him.

Dang. Isaiah Stewart got paid. $16 mil per for 4 years. Grant Williams should fire his agent.

Who were they bidding against? Why not wait until next off-season? It's not like he would have gotten more, right? I mean, he was going to be fighting with Bagley, Duren, and Wiseman for playing time.

Seems like a bad move to me. I like Stewart, but just a weird move to me unles they think Stewart is going to take a big leap.

This either means they plan to do a trade or they don’t consider wiseman or bagley (at least one of them) any sort of long term piece right? Duran showed a lot as a rookie and is on a cheap contract. Don’t think one of those guys will like being the 4th big.

Trade idea: Portland should go after Siakam. Offer Anfernee Simons for Siakam. I am not sure anyone else will offer an individual player as good as A Simons for Siakam given Siakam's impending FA and contract demands.

Give Lillard a reason to stay.

G: Scoot
G: Lillard, S Sharpe
F: Jerami Grant
F: Siakam
C: Nurkic

Trade idea: Siakam would make a good backup plan for Miami. Maybe Lowry and picks for Siakam.

G: Herro, (free agent)
G: J Richardson, D Robinson
F: J Butler, C Martin
F: Siakam, K Love
C: Adebayo, T Bryant

That is an exciting team. A major improvement on last year's squad.
