Spurs roster

G: Tre Jones, Cam Payne, Devonte Graham
G: D Vassell, D McDermott, J Champagnie
F: K Johnson, Cedi Osman, M Branham
F: J Sochan, R Bullock, C Sissoko
C: V Wembanyama, Z Collins, Khem Birch

Looks like their roster is set now. 3 deep across the board. Interesting that there are 3 vets blocking the path to playing time for the bench SG, SF, PF positions wingman positions. All 6 of the bench SG, SF, PF guys are all natural SFs playing out of position at SG or PF.

Pop has always used SG and SF positions similarly so not much difference there for him. I do wonder if Pop hadn't of had Manu Ginobili would he have struggled more to get enough secondary ball-handling and playmaking from the wings. He doesn't seem to value it enough. Same with his time with Team USA as well.

The starting guards are a real weak point for this team. Probably the worst backcourt in the league. Or at least the least talented backcourt in the league. Some young team might have more flawed less win-now starting guards but with higher upside.

J Sochan showed good defensive talent as a rook but his offensive game was dreadful. They have no real alternative to him at PF. The other players are all natural SFs. They could go big with Z Collins but that isn't a great option either. He is a C not a PF.

Overall, quite a weak team especially their starting unit but with good depth which should carry them to a few extra victories. May be more of a 25-30 win team than a 20-25 win team. If Wemby can have a big rookie season, they should be a 30+ win team given their quality bench.

Keldon Johnson is the only proven quality starter on the team.

I disagree the starting guards are a real weak point for this team. Vassell averaged 18.5 points last season, and is on the verge of breaking out into a 2 way star. Outside of Wemby I’m highest on him on this team. I also think Tre Jones may be more talented than his brother Tyrus. He averaged 12.9 points and 6.6 assists last season.

Have read that Collins will start and Sochan will come in as 6th man.  Victor lacks the physicality to guard most centers.

Ah okay, that makes sense.

Of course Wemby also lacks the footspeed to defend PFs. Wherever you put him on defense, he is going to be a liability. Both on and off the ball. His off ball positioning and footwork is terrible.
You can afford to do so when you have the physical traits to recover on anything

The Philadelphia 76ers have signed Filip Petrusev to a two-year deal, league sources told @hoopshype. The deal includes a partial guarantee for the upcoming 2023-24 season and is non-guaranteed for the 2024-25 season.

Anybody got a scouting report?

Wow, never heard of Filip Petrusev.  My guess is he is no better than Champagnie or Banton.  I think this is indicative of the type of player that is going be populating the end of the bench for teams based on the new CBA.  Starts to make Kornet look pretty good.

Another center for Philly? Now they got 5 centers?

Joel Embiid, Mo Bamba, Montrez Harrell, Paul Reed and this new guy.

I remember looking into him a few years ago around draft time, when he was 20 or 21. He's had a couple of solid seasons, but I'm not sure he even sees the floor here, unless they plan on going double big at times. He's an alright passer and a pretty good 3PT shooter. Not too flash defensively.

I knew this would happen, but I really wanted to poach him with a small amount over the minimum using the TPE.

Nice. So they have D Sabonis, A Len and N Noel at center plus some small ball five with Trey Lyles.

G: D Fox, Davion Mitchell, Colby Jones
G: K Huerter, M Monk
F: Keegan Murray, C Duarte, Kessler Edwards
F: H Barnes, S Vezenkov, T Lyles
C: D Sabonis, A Len, N Noel

It would be great for Sacramento if they could hold onto Terrence Davis. Move Duarte back into a 3rd stringer role. That would give them a useful collection of 3rd stringers one through five. Duarte and that backup SF the weak link in those primary backup slots.

It'll be interesting to see what Vezenkov can do in the NBA.

He looked good for a season at Gonzaga. He's more a stretch 4 than a 5.

I liked noel as a backup for probably far too long but I have finally thrown I. The towel on him being more than a deep bench guy. If you had told some of the process lovers 4 years ago that okafor would be out of the league, saric and noel would be deep bench guys and Covington would be playing 15 minutes a game all their heads would have exploded. To mention nothing of simmons. The best career at this point may be tj McConnell

I remember thinking Tony Wroten was going to take over the league, haha.

The best of the process era (besides Joel) would have to be Jerami Grant.

Harry Giles was heavily connected to Sacramento. I was pretty sure he’d end up there, being a fan favorite as well. The Nerlens signing suggests that maybe teams are wary of giving Giles guaranteed money? Giles would probably end up with a 2 way or a camp invite with some team. I still hope the Celtics give him a chance. Giles could be a better reclamation project than Jabari Parker.
