I am puzzled how the lakers can afford to sign all these players

Pretty sure Vincent and Prince were with the MLE; everyone else was either bird rights or vet min I think

Vincent is a better player than Strus and has no business getting a worse deal. Reaves is better than both of them and is honesty probably getting paid under the table. I cannot believe no team made the Lakers match an offer. They Lakers went out and dumped a bad Westbrook deal and actually improved their asset accumulation even more. All the while LeGM will gladly trade them for an upgrade and no one will say a peep.

I really don’t get freaking out over them adding a bench guard and wing that has largely been irrelevant throughout his career. What exactly is happening here? They lost Schroeder as well. This is hardly a haul.

Nobody else in the league adds those two guys for $25 million, hence the problem. Those two are better fits than Schroeder has ever been anywhere, never cared for him.

You are basically floating a conspiracy theory here. Vincent has made 3.5 million in his entire career. You really believe he took a pay cut on his first and perhaps only big contract? Maybe someone else offered him a million more or something but thinking he turned down a big pay day in his situation in his situation is pretty wild concept. Prince is obviously not as an insane situation career earnings but he is 28 and was just bought out for 7 million cause twolves couldn’t find anyone that would give up an asset for him at that salary. This is his worth he is a flawed wing that couldn’t make a difference on multiple teams starved for wing depth. The idea these guys took big pay cuts in their situation is frankly fairly ridiculous.

Who said anything about Prince? That’s most likely future trade bait. Conspiracy, location, or whatever you want to call it the Lakers once again are benefiting while everyone else overpays for the Jerami Grants of the world. Yeah I’ll be rooting for Father Time once again.

Yeah, considering LeBron James wants to be contending for a title now, it’s a very average roster.

The Pelicans essentially gave away Jaxson Hayes. Although he’s shown promise, Hayes is still very raw. Russell is one of the most overrated players in the NBA & Vincent is solid, but what’s his ranking among point guards in the league?

Vincent
Reaves
Hachimura
James
Davis

Russell, Vanderbilt, Prince, Hayes, Reddish, Hood-Schifino, Maxwell

———

That roster doesn’t scream superstardom.

I’m surprised they didn’t make a run at Irving, it made so much sense. They’re in a desperate situation & his skills overlap perfectly with LeBron’s.

If I am the Lakers GM, and you gave me a choice of Hachimura & Russell or Irving…I would have rolled the dice with Irving.

LeBron James is 18 months older than Al Horford. He’ll be 39 1/2 years old during next year’s finals. He’s exceeded 56 games only once in the last 5 seasons. AD is no better. So they retained their players, swapped Schröder and Bamba for Vincent, Prince and Jaxson Hayes. Much ado about nothing.

Be nice if Brad could get going in FA. Cannot believe the kid from the Pacers is only thing they have going. If so...yeesh

How exactly are the Lakers paying for all this?
No offense, what else you expecting them to do for the most part? So far they got Zinger/Brissett. Only real open question is Grant at this point and filling out the rest of bench.

Filling out the bench is important.
Sure it is. But also need to be realistic. A lot of the guys on people gushed on the board like Richardson/Beeverly etc went to teams where they will get significant minutes. They aren’t gonna do that on Boston. So why would they sign a vet min deal to sit on a bench?

Strauss is a significantly better shooter than Vincent. I am sure lakers would have rather had Strus than vincent. Also vincent is a downgrade from Schroeder imo. Not really shaking in my boots over them getting prince either. We have had a much better offseason getting porzingas. It always amazes me how much people juice up the lakers moves on here.

Yeah, I don't see what there is to get worked up about.

I am not sure Taureen Prince is any better than Troy Brown Jr. They just picked the older guy with a more recognizable name over the younger guy who is just as good if not better than him.

Gabe Vincent vs Schroder is a tough one. It depends on what you need. Schroder is a better one-on-one creator. G Vincent better off ball but not much good off ball. Both good defenders but Gabe better overall due to superior size. Schroder is great against small guards but can struggle more on switches than G Vincent.

Either way, it is nothing to get worked up about.

Not is anything for Miami to get worked up about. Losing Gabe Vincent is something you would rather did not happen but he is no world beater. He has been a below average backup PG most of his career and has severe limitations in his game. They have already replaced him with Josh Richardson who is more talented than Gabe Vincent is.

Ditto for Strus. Solid bench guy but nothing special. They had extra depth in those positions. I prefer D Robinson personally over Strus although I know most disagree.

None of these changes are big game changers over what they had last season. Not for LAL. Not for MIA. Not for MIN (T Prince to T Brown). The TOR one is a big setback cause they went from FVV to Schoder. That hurts.

Jaxson Hayes is not great shakes either. Not better than Mo Bamba. Comparable if not inferior. Solid effort guy but dumb. Hasn't improved since he came into the league despite having good vets to teach him in S Adams and J Valanciunas. Probably ain't making any major leaps in LAL either.

So Philly add Pat Beverley

G - Maxey, Beverley
G - Harden, D Melton

That is a nice four man guard rotation.

Now they just need to fix their frontcourt depth. They have next to no depth in the frontcourt.

I’d rather have the depth. That’s the biggest reason they actually showed life in the playoffs. Their role guys actually showed up because they weren’t relying on Westbrook chucking it up anymore.

I feel like Austin Reaves should fire his agent.  He couldn't get some team to give him an offer sheet and settled for the MLE?

You’re probably right.

But although it’s risky, a starting core of Davis, James, Reaves & Irving has to inspire role players to take a 1 year discount for a ring chase.

Like others were alluding to earlier, being in L.A has it’s advantages in regards to free agents.

Seriously.  There should have been some team willing to dare the Lakers with an Arenas contract.

You got the Hornets reportedly sniffing around for Grant yet nobody threw an offer at Reaves to at least hurt the Lakers future flexibility? Makes no sense from a competitive standpoint.

Probably switch in powell for harden. Seems like 2% chance harden is on 76ers next year who is the Michael jordan of forcing his way off teams at this point.

Well you get your money locked up for 24 hours and then everyone is signed. I think the spurs should have done that but seem like only team that realistically could have after van fleet signed with Houston.

Hachimura -- also a RFA -- is getting almost as much over three years as Reaves is over four, and Reaves is easily the better player.
