Shams Charania: Rockets are nearing a deal with Dillon Brooks, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Houston has been lining up trades around league, and could turn Brooks deal into sign-and-trade with Memphis.

He isn’t the guy I would want around a bunch of young players

The rockets threw away their cap for Dillion Brooks! I can’t believe that contract.

Dillons Brooks for $20 mil a year? Okay, now that's the worst contract of the off season.

Seeing some of these deals, Porzingis at essentially 3/96M is a bargain even with the injury concerns.

4/80 for Brooks? 5/160 for Grant? 3/130M for FVV?!

Rockets forwards

F - Amen Thompson, Cam Whitmore
F - Jabari Smith Jr, Jae'Sean Tate

They don't really need Dillon Brooks. He is only going to take minutes away from their young forwards who need playing time to develop.

The Rockets agreed with free agent center Jock Landale on a four-year, $32M deal — with only the first season guaranteed, sources tell ESPN.

Haha, that is a ridiculous contract for D Brooks. I am not sure any other team in the league would have given him the MLE. I was expecting him to get the minimum or close to it. Rockets vastly overpaid for a player who had little to no market for his services.

$20mil a year and for 4 years! Awful.

Not even 1-2yrs but 4 full years. Terrible.

That's not terrible, probably a room exception deal. Low downside with the guarantee. He was playable in the playoffs for the Suns.

Nice deal for Landale. He was a minimum contract candidate.

Is this with the expanded room exception?

I like what the Rockets have done. I think they will be a much tougher team this year.

I still wonder when and what players will be traded for another star/high-level starter.

Man the Rockets have a young team full of promise, many picks + a ton of cap space, and they botched it in FA.

230M+ combined for Landale, FVV and Brooks?? YIKES

I mean Landale at 32M over 4 years is solid. The other two? Oof

Its a lot, but they desperately need any sort of defense on that team.
