Bryant to Miami. They've stolen two of my targets in JRich and Bryant.
Everyone wants Miami or LAL. It’s annoying.
It's beyond annoying—it's unfair. The NBA might as well move all of its cold-weather teams to warm-weather locations, then there'd be a more level playing field in free agency. Big free agents are probably never going to want to go to places like Sacto and Minny anyway, but then add in bad weather and those teams have even less of a chance of landing anyone of significance.
The lakers have one title (in a bubble) and one totals finals appearance in the last 13 years. Doesn’t seem that unfair
But they're always just one deal away from contending. Boston has to strategize and scheme and work hard to get good and stay good, while the Lakers just wait for great players to become free agents or force a trade to L.A.
RR is spot on. Every other team spends decades trying with strategy and luck to nurture something LAL always had access to. The Lakers create cap room and they get a top 10 or top 5 player. Their future assets are always expendable and they often only have to sit back and let players tell them they want to be there. They can manipulate value in trades just as Miami will probably be able to do with Lillard. It’s not that there is no competition for players, it’s that LAL has a constant leg up, a perennially easier pathway to contention.
And if you take the Laker “slump” of the last 13 years and offer it to almost every other franchise, how many say ‘no’ to 1 title and one finals appearance? The answer is Miami, Cleveland, GSW and San Antonio. And there might be something in common with the first 2 on the list. That thing in common decided he wanted to play for the Lakers.
