We aren’t using the TPE and picks to get someone this year.  Not happening.  If a trade nets us another bench player, it will be because we traded Brogdon for two players.  We’re not going above the second apron.

Apologies, as I'm sure you've said it many times before, but if we use the TPE that will 100% send us over the second apron?

In what situation in the coming years do you think the C's would ever rationalize going over the apron?  When the J's megacontracts make it impossible NOT to go over (while still fielding a strong supporting cast)?

Toronto has such a weird team

G: D Schroder, G Trent Jr
F: S Barnes, G Dick
F: Anunoby, Jalen McDaniels,
F: P Siakam, O Porter, Thad Young, C Boucher
C: J Poeltl, P Achiuwa

One legit PG
One legit SG
Eight forwards
Two centers

Definitely a strange roster.  What do you think of offering Pritchard for Achiuwa, straight up.  They make almost exactly the same.  Achiuwa becomes our 4th big to replace Grant.  I see him as more of a PF anyway.  We would have to back fill Pritchard with Davison and Banton or go find a vet.
Funny. About a month ago I went through the entire NBA to see who matched Pritchard on salary and need and came back with Precious. I agree. Trade would make sense.

Shocking.
Ya. Years ago somone called me out when I said Romeo was officially a bust after a 1-11 shooting game for Maine. He said he’d hold me to it and that post wouldn’t age well. 🤔

I don't think that was me, but I admittedly was a Romeo supporter.  I did say Romeo would beat out Nesmith in the 2021 preseason.  Ultimately neither lasted to the 2022 preseason.
He was always so passive offensively. I’m a firm believer that you can spot losers in summer league. If you are not impressing in summer league or G League, you are more than likely a bust. Success in summer league or G League doesn’t guarantee NBA success, but failure “guarantees” NBA failure IMO. Although Max Strus is one exception.

That may be, but he didn’t even participate in summer league until prior to his third season.  He was hurt his rookie year and there was no summer league his second year because of Covid.  He was the summer Celtics leading scorer, rebounder, and assist man the one year he did participate, so your memory of his summer league troubles feels questionable.
Ya. Good point. I forgot about his injury/Covid. But according to this he averaged 11/3/2 in his one summer league. Where are you seeing that he led the team in those categories?

I pulled up some different page that made it look like he led the team.  Maybe I clicked on a single game by accident or something — no clue, I can’t find it again.  I admit I was surprised, because I remembered that being the Summer League where Pritchard was a superstar for a couple of games.  Should have relied on my memory more, bad stats less!

What if Brogdon gors to Detroit for Bogdanovic and Isaiah Stewart?

Bogdanovic not only shoots 40% from 3 - he's 6'8" and can backup up the Jay's. He can also play SF and Tatum can slide over and play some PF. Stewart is our 4th big. White plays PG with Pritchard backing him up.

Not a bad call. Do the salaries work? Although then suddenly we are light on PG depth unless you really like one of PP, JD, Banton.

Yeah might need to grab a vet pg off the trash heap.

I'm not sure if Detroit would want to do it. Brogdon could play some SG for them next to their taller PGs

We don’t need to use the full TPE. We could get someone for around $5 million then cut either Champagnie or Kornet. The net would be only adding about $3 million.  Not suggesting, we just add $6 million to the cap.

It is not likely. But this is something that can be worked out.

But that’s what the MLE is for, not the TPE.

Dario Saric and Christian Wood reportedly have only had vet min offers so far. The Celtics should grab one of these two guys for part of the MLE and fill that need for a backup power forward.

https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-warriors-named-likely-landing-spot-for-dario-saric-but-there-catch

Christian Wood reportedly turned down a 2-year, $36 million extension from Dallas mid-season.  People here were crowning Grant with the Dennis Schröder award, but really it looks like Wood is on his way to winning it.

Yikes. He’ll probably go ring chasing for a year before looking for a new long term deal.

You know LAL need a PF. C Wood could start there ahead of Vanderbilt. A mini-AD. Very good fit for both player and team. Rebuild that value with all eyes on LeBron's team watching him do it.

The other contender that badly needs a PF is the Miami Heat. Kevin Love would be his only competition.

Haha. That is funny. The two teams right now that nobody wants to see guys go to because FAs want to go there so often but they are the two teams that can offer him the best opportunity in terms of playing time, winning and limelight.

Lebron and AD are best suited for PF, so I’m not sure why you think the Lakers have a starting PF spot available.  I highly doubt they’d start Wood along with those two

They have been starting AD at center. LeBron has played SF next to Vanderbilt at PF.

Again: There is NO REASON not to be above the second apron. The second apron this year means nothing, its an arbitrary line. The penalties for being above it are not in effect this year.

Its literally only tax money, and if they stay below it their tax bill would be smaller than last year.

I COMPLETELY AGREE, but the Celtics moves seem to indicate they think otherwise.  There was zero reason to not just sign Grant to the MLE, and deal with moving his contract next year, which would have been incredibly easy since it still would have fit into the MLE trade exception.  But everything we’ve heard seems to indicate the Celtics aren’t going above it.  Why else would they tell Beverley to wait a a few days and they could pay him more?  They could only do that with the MLE — so they’ve decided to stay below the apron.

Just a lot of contradictions with Brad and Wyc about spending. He got the OK to spend but it sounds like they don't wanna pay the luxury tax. If you're a contender, you gotta pay the tax. Care about the team or sell it.

Agree. Spend to win.
