Shams Charania: Free agent guard AJ Green has agreed to a multi-year contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, with the first year fully guaranteed, per sources. Agent Matt Bollero of ProMondo Sports negotiated the contract.

Bother.  One of my MLE ideas, if Brad is only going to go for fringe players with upside, was to split it to sign two two-way restricted free agents from teams in the tax who wouldn't want to match/couldn't match, and AJ Green was one of my targets with that, along with Moussa Diabate.

Rockets have signed Aaron Holiday.

They seem intent on alienating the primary ball-handlers from last season's disastrous team. Can't say I blame them.

The Portland Trail Blazers are matching restricted free agent Matisse Thybulle’s three-year, $33 million offer sheet with the Dallas Mavericks, sources tell ESPN. Sheet was signed and received in Portland this morning.

Thybulle is reportedly signing an offer sheet with Dallas.  I would expect Portland to match, unless they come up with a sign-and-trade.

As I expected.  I wonder if the Mavs still loop in San Antonio to the sign-and-trade for Grant, or if it just becomes a Boston-Dallas deal given that the Mavs retain their MLE that they had used on Thybulle.

The Charlotte Hornets and Houston Rockets are among the teams that have shown interest in free-agent point guard Aaron Holiday, league sources told HoopsHype. Holiday is considered a 3-and-D point guard during his five-year NBA career thus far as a 37.7 percent shooter from beyond the arc.

Holiday is another guy I'd have some interest in.  Allegedly he was one of the deal-breakers in the Hayward-for-Turner talks; we wanted him, the Pacers refused.  Funny how that worked out for all involved.
Holiday hasn't panned out at all as I had hoped he would. Was looking like he'd be a solid 3&D small guard, and was looking promising at 23 years old. Never happened

The New Orleans Pelicans waived 13-year NBA veteran Garrett Temple, as first reported by HoopsHype. Temple’s $5.4 million salary for the 2023-24 season would’ve been fully guaranteed by July 7 if he remained on the roster.

Temple, 37, has been considered a steady veteran locker room presence and mentor over the past six years with Sacramento, Memphis, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Chicago, and New Orleans.

After waiving Temple and his $5.4 million salary, the Pelicans are still slightly over the luxury tax with 13 players. Another cost-cutting move would have to happen for New Orleans to duck the tax, as HoopsHype colleague Yossi Gozlan noted on Twitter.

With that in mind, Pelicans guard Kira Lewis, who’s owed $5.72 million for the 2023-24 season, could be the next player eventually on the move. Lewis was made available in trade talks ahead of the trade deadline, as reported by HoopsHype.

I like Temple as an end of bench guy, too.  Moreso than Banton.
Maybe 3 years ago, but Temple is definitely a lesser player than Banton now. Temple's last 2 seasons have seen him shoot terribly nor score at all. He can still play D, but if we're going with an iffy shooter who plays good defence I would rather the guy who isn't 37.

I'm the opposite.  Since I see no on-court performance difference, I'd prefer the respected voice in the lockerroom.

Is that Garret Temple? The New Orleans locker-room seems to have some rough patches. He's old, but does he actually do anything to lead?

Do they have a choice? I was under the assumption that we were getting the picks from SAS, not DAL. Does DAL even have 2nds to trade and, if so, are they anywhere near the caliber that we are getting from SAS?

They're committing to the combination of Young & Murray? Doesn't make any sense to me

Not that bad of a contract. $30mil a year. That is the type of money Tyler Herro and Anfernee Simons get. Reasonable enough for Dejounte Murray.

Wait, that is a max deal. How is it so slow? He is not coming off a rookie contract. Even if he was, aren't the rookies getting more than that?

Yeah, I don’t get it either, though I guess that’s better than losing him for nothing next summer?

Agreed - I guess I more never got them pursuing him in the first place. Never was going to fit with Trae
