The only trade that I could make work with SAN as the 3rd team was as follows (there are other permutations possible, I am sure):

To BOS:    Powell, Branham
To DAL:    Grant ($12M)
To SAN:    Hardaway, Champagnie (+ pick from Dallas?)

I think the trade machine considering cap holds currently under SAS.  SAS could renounce Langford and clear that up, or sign him.  There may be more options, but the trade machine was very finicky to make something work.

Yeah, SAS has enough cap space to absorb Hardaway if they renounce Langford (which they effectively have).  Also, never trust trade machine, because Powell is a free agent who just resigned, but we can't take him in a sign-and-trade because we're over the first apron.

So the deal could be:

To SAS:    Hardaway + DAL 1st
To DAL:    Grant (at say $15M)
To BOS:    ????  (DAL 1st)

The reporting was that BOS is asking for a 1st.  We would have to get something from DAL or why do this, we could just hold out and either have him on the QO or match a $12M MLE offer if he gets one.

I think this could work for BOS but it seems like a lot for DAL to give up to get Grant.

I agree it’s a lot for Dallas to give up.  They like their analytics tho, so it’s possible their computers have pegged Grant as an important player to get.  I don’t think THJ costs a first to move however.

I have no idea but it took a first round pick for SAC to move Richaun Holmes' contract, which was only $12M vs. Hardaway at $18M, I was just going on that.  If they can move Hardaway for less, that makes this more likely or more reasonable for DAL.  I am fine with it so long as we get something decent for the trouble.  A draft pick is not all that helpful this season, I would rather just keep Grant but something with DAL could be fine too.

Thybulle is reportedly signing an offer sheet with Dallas.  I would expect Portland to match, unless they come up with a sign-and-trade.

Is it fair to assume this is for the full MLE ($12.4M)?  They can still use that in full, right?  If I was POR, I am not sure I would match.  He is not really a build around Lillard piece and not really a build for the future piece, what would be the point?

Eliminates one of the few remaining options for Grant.

It's going to be a bit less than the full MLE.  And as for Grant, as we discussed in a different thread, the Mavs were also going to look into a sign-and-trade involving a third team for him, so I don't think this changes too much.  They've been trying to move THJ, and signing another wing only makes that more likely.  When he's traded, they'll be able to offer Grant something if they're still interested.

So the idea might be:

G: K Irving, Seth Curry
G: M Thybulle, J Green
F: L Doncic, OM Prosper
F: G Williams, M Kleber
C: R Holmes, D Lively

Hmm ... not sure what to think of that. That team is closer to being interesting. Not that good but interesting.

I am presuming Thybulle as a starter because I think that starting unit needs some high level quickness & athleticism in it. Josh Green is probably the better player. But I worry about Luke and G Will as slower forwards. I feel they need to up their team speed.

I would not be surprised at all if Jaden Hardy is the starting 2 guard in this scenario. He had some impressive games in his rookie season while also being an adequate defensive player.

Interesting. I keep hearing his name but I didn't notice him last season. I have seen Mavs fans who are very high on him but also worried that he may not get playing time next season. I forget why. Maybe it was after the signing of Seth Curry. Or Dante Exum.

I must keep an eye out for J Hardy in the future.

He is a significantly more efficient player than I believed he would be. 40% from 3PT (63/156), with 8 3PA per 36 minutes. He is a decent athlete, with adequate size. Not much of a passer though.

I don't see a world in which Josh Green doesn't start. I think Thybulle will be competing with Prosper more than the others, given their shooting ability. Green is also a solid athletic defender

Yeah, they're definitely higher on Hardy than Josh Green right now. From twitter via Hoopshype:

I'll also just say since they stole OMP from under our noses, NO GRANT FOR YOU! They take the guy we wanted to replace Grant and then we give them Grant also? Brad don't play that.

I admit I’ve been hoping Brad was holding out for OMax in a Grant S&T.

The sixers add Mo Bamba, it would be nice if Brad signed someone, don't think Banton is going to lead to Banner 18.

Now, that is a nice signing for Philly.

They can keep their entire defensive structure in place now whether Embiid is in the game or out of the game. Unlike with smaller bigs like Paul Reed who do not provide a paint deterrent.

The Charlotte Hornets and Houston Rockets are among the teams that have shown interest in free-agent point guard Aaron Holiday, league sources told HoopsHype. Holiday is considered a 3-and-D point guard during his five-year NBA career thus far as a 37.7 percent shooter from beyond the arc.

Holiday is another guy I'd have some interest in.  Allegedly he was one of the deal-breakers in the Hayward-for-Turner talks; we wanted him, the Pacers refused.  Funny how that worked out for all involved.

The New Orleans Pelicans waived 13-year NBA veteran Garrett Temple, as first reported by HoopsHype. Temple’s $5.4 million salary for the 2023-24 season would’ve been fully guaranteed by July 7 if he remained on the roster.

Temple, 37, has been considered a steady veteran locker room presence and mentor over the past six years with Sacramento, Memphis, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Chicago, and New Orleans.

After waiving Temple and his $5.4 million salary, the Pelicans are still slightly over the luxury tax with 13 players. Another cost-cutting move would have to happen for New Orleans to duck the tax, as HoopsHype colleague Yossi Gozlan noted on Twitter.

With that in mind, Pelicans guard Kira Lewis, who’s owed $5.72 million for the 2023-24 season, could be the next player eventually on the move. Lewis was made available in trade talks ahead of the trade deadline, as reported by HoopsHype.

I like Temple as an end of bench guy, too.  Moreso than Banton.

Never heard of him before.

Milwaukee has Grayson Allen, Pat Connaughton and Malik Beasley ahead of him at SG so AJ Green probably won't play at all.

That is an interesting choice. So Portland is now:

G: Lillard, Scoot
G: A Simons, M Thybulle
F: S Sharpe, R Rupert
F: Jerami Grant, Kris Murray
C: Nurkic

Both their draft picks were SFs as well (like Thybulle). The younger K Murray and the french defensive SF Rayan Rupert. Thybulle can play SG for them. Not much bench size yet.

Their bench is really one backup PG and three SFs.
