Well I'll hand it to Brad. Thought we were going to just run it back. But he's making big changes to the roster

Yeah, I am surprised too. Aggressive move. Big time risk to take (injury risk, cost of contract extension, possible limitation of future flexability as a result). That risk taking by PBS surprises me also.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Fwiw, I doubt Porzingis would be opting in right now if his value was $36M/yr over multiple years. An extension might mean something between $25-30M/yr over 3 or 4 years. That could end up being really good value for KP, even if it means he has to take some games off here and there.

I will say though how much more of an injury risk is he than brogdon?

Brogdon played the highest amount of games in his career since his rookie season last year.

I agree. I don't think he's looking at max money which could make his contract useful.

Wow, skip news for a day and almost fell of my chair. Adding a player who averages 20 plus a game, almost 10 rebounds, shoots FT’s at 85 percent to a team with tatum and brown is super legit new big 3. Our owners could be going for it, taxes be [dang]ed.

I expect Horford to continue to start and Timelord to come off the bench. The reason being Horford is still the most mobile and best perimeter defender of the trio so best equipped to deal with most PFs + his offensive game allows Porzingis to play inside more on offense whereas with Timelord, Porzingis will be forced more towards the periemeter.

G: Smart, D White
G: Jaylen
F: Tatum, Hauser
F: Horford, Muscala
C: Porzingis, Rob Williams

That is a huge amount of size on defense. Not just the twin shot-blockers but also the twin super-sized wings and 1-2 punch of big defensive PGs in Smart and D White. Super switchable perimeter guys. Loads of size and length. They are going to be very successful at shrinking the floor on defense with all that size.

He's not more of an injury risk. They've played about the same amount of games over the last 3 years. Last year, Malcolm played 67 and KP played 65.

Anyone know if an extension is signed can they lower the cap hit for next year freeing up money to sign Grant and use the tax payer MLE?

No.

If we had cap space, we could raise his salary like Myles Turner did with the Pacers last year. But we can't lower it.

Why is everyone, and Twitter, acting like this is a done deal. It’s not official yet, right?

Good first step in reshaping this roster. Please get a replacement for grant at 35 or maybe even trade into the first round.

Does this mean PP stays?

I was just about to ask the same thing. I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch.

It’s not a done deal, but it seems very close to the finish line.

When the pieces being traded are so detailed and listed by multiple credible sources, it usually means the deal is essentially done.

I keep on refreshing in hopes of seeing official confirmation that a deal is done. Until then, it's all speculation to me.
