Hopefully Butler will be close to washed up before Miami can lure “ steal”  Embiid away from Philly

That is crazy!

The guy is not even an average starting SG yet.

Talk about paying for potential.

I don't necessarily think he's worth it, but that's more or less the same as Jordan Poole, Jerami Grant, Tyler Herro, Cam Johnson, Kyle Kuzma, John Collins. It's a few million more than the Anfernee Simons, RJ Barrett, Jordan Clarkson types.

That's for a good shooter whose scoring has gone 5.5 -> 12.3 -> 18.5 per game and 11.6 -> 16.2 -> 21.5 per 36.

If you're SAS, you have to shoot your shot and bet on your guys. You're not a destination. I'd take Vassell over a bunch of the names listed above.
2023 Historical Draft: Toronto Raptors

Point Guard: Anfernee Hardaway, Fat Lever, Terrell Brandon
Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger
Power Forward: Jermaine O'Neal, Bobby Jones, Kiki Vandeweghe
Center: Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka

Philly looks set to clear the books after this season. I think this is the final year of the process unless they make a serious run. There are no big name free agents hitting the market next offseason, so why hoard all this space? This is going to be a big year for Embiid in Philly, if they fall short again it looks like they'll be hitting the reset button.

Gotta feeling the heat aren't going to be very good this season.
If they're that bad, what are the chances that Brad can pry Spoelstra from them and make him our coach?
Sorry, I have PTSD from last season.

Imo he has already proved he is a well above average talent. I think he’s the 2nd most talented Spur after Wemby, and I can see him being a multi time all star being a 2 way player. Dude averaged 18.5 last year only 22, but season was cut short. I think it’s a clever move to lock him early, as I’m pretty much convinced he will be really good.

Jimmy Butler outdoing his classic dreadlocks look from last year by going full emo. He has been a pain in our asses, but man, this is truly amazing

https://twitter.com/MiamiHEAT/status/1708845642657722780

Just a little help with popular culture - I thought I had an idea of what ‘emo’ means but I’m not sure Butler’s hair style matches with my definition. Please explain what full emo means and the connection to the hair. Thanks!

In the late 90s/early 00s, along with punk rock, I was a fan of what was called [second wave] emo at the time. Bands like Saves the Day, Get Up Kids, New Found Glory, etc fit this realm. But then in the mid-00s, bands like My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday, etc kind-of took over the genre and those other bands more became more known as melodic hardcore or easy-core.

Emo hair is far more prevalent among white people than black people, which is what makes what Jimmy did even more funny. Jimmy Heat World (parody of the band Jimmy Eat World) is my favorite name I've heard so far. Here is a pic of mid-00s Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance for reference:

I’ve never heard of emo as a music genre - never heard of any of those bands.  Though I think I may be the least musically diverse person you’ll ever meet. I still have the same 500 favorites songs of the 60’s and early 70’s on my music player (whatever it’s called) and that’s all I listen to and likely all I’ll ever listen to.
Thanks for the info - I appreciate it!!

That’s a weird landing spot.  I wonder if they used a lot or all of their room exception.

Sounds like Portland won't immediately flip Brogdon:

We want to have Malcolm come here and be a part of this,” Cronin told reporters in Portland. “He can bring some good on-court intangibles for us and also as a veteran, which is something we’re going to need. We have a very young roster. I want to make sure there’s enough veteran leadership around these guys.”

James Harden’s holdout with the Sixers is over, per @wojespn. Harden will report to training camp taking place this week in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Kinda feel bad for Brogdon then.  Portland is several years away from reasonably expecting to contend again unless Scoot (and some of their other young guys) greatly exceeds expectations.  Can't imagine he came into this year hoping to babysit.

Oh well.  C'est la vie.

Was it really a "hold out"?  What exactly did he hold out of?  It was only a hold out if he didn't show up.  I think Woj is being unfair with his characterization of this.
