Solid defender.  Throw him at Brown and Tatum in practice.  I don't think he's anything more than that, really, but that's okay.

Aside from that, possibly a tradeable contract in the off-season?  I haven't seen details on the deal anywhere but that would make sense to me.

Either a tradable contract or an early audition for a 2-way, since we get three of those now.

I can see why Stevens signed Champagnie; he has potential. From the few highlights that I've seen, he's shown the same strengths that this scouting report highlights:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTzlRXGXrx0&ab_channel=AdamSpinella

In addition to that, he has good handles and driving ability for a former college big, and plays at a controlled pace; and the most important for Stevens, he's a versatile defender (has the athleticism, agility, strength, and length to effectively guard 2-4).

I don't expect a player filling the 15th roster spot to receive minutes outside of blowouts and practice this season; but if he does and plays well, we'll have advanced clarity on the the Grant-Celtics extension.

I've seen Justin Champagnie play in G-league and he's a hustle player. He's big and fast and could turn into an NBA player.

Good point on the third available 2-way contract.  Our roster is getting pretty crowded for next season.  We have 12 signed (assuming Gallinari picks up his player option).  Grant and Griffin are free agents.  Champagnie probably ends up as a 2-way at best.  Davison could be in line for a full roster spot and then we have our second round pick plus Nadar and Begarin still out there.  Spots 1-12 are all pretty solid, well, maybe except for Kornet.

I am starting to think that Grant won't be back which is too bad.  Maybe he can be a sign and trade for a TPE.  We will have Gallinari and Muscala and a MLE to use (either via signing or trading).  We can probably use that MLE to get someone about as good as Grant but for half the cost.  Pritchard may get traded so that could open up another spot, depending on what we take back.  Kornet is not guaranteed so he could be released.  But really not a lot of spots to have to fill.

1) There's no reason for the Celtics to let Grant walk if they're serious about winning. There's no one better they'd be able to get. 2) they probably won't have the taxpayer MLE next year because of the new CBA.

I gathered the same from the highlights. That scouting report is spot on. He’s a good cutter, has good timing for diving for offensive boards, and has all the tools to be a complementary role player.

If Justin impresses in his time with the team this season, Danilo is healthy, and Grant remains the 8th player on the depth chart, GW might be the first casualty of Wyc and the salary cap (with the exception of Grant proving to be indispensable in this playoff run).

There you go.  Our final championship piece.  Our practices are going to be so much better now.

I have never heard of this guy.  I am sure they are hoping he turns out to be another Sam Hauser.  People are saying that he is not a good shooter but the quote in the article is as follows:

Quote
Champagnie has put up averages of 18.2 points and 8.0 rebounds in 31.3 minutes per game. He played in 23 games, starting 15 of them, for the Skyforce this season. Champagnie isn’t a particularly good shooter as he shot 30.6% on 3-pointers on 4.8 attempts per game this season. He did shoot 40.9% from 3 in 14 G-League games last season, though.

41% last season (from 3) in the G-League and only 31% this season.  So which is he?  Good shooters can have a bad stretch but bad shooters usually don't shoot well for 14 games in a row.  I am sure the Celtics believe that he can shoot.  He was not a particularly good 3pt shooter in college.

I was not expecting the so called "15th man" to move the needle and it sure hasn't.  But that is OK.

He was 35% over two seasons (70/199) in the G-League, which is meh, especially considering the lack of defense there.  On the plus side, he shot over 60% from 2 this year, which is incredibly high for a wing with the kind of volume he had (over 9 two-point attempts per game).  Looks like a really good rebounder as well.  Seems like he offers something different to his game.  He’s Grant-sized from a height/length perspective, but much leaner.
That inside the arc scoring is pretty wild. He seems like an odd player - good inside the arc, elite rebounder, mediocre shooter, decent defender, poor passer. Odd jumble of strengths and weaknesses for a wing

I don't know how this will go of course but I can think of a lot of reasons why they would let him walk.  So imagine someone offers him a contract starting at say $17M.  Would you rather have Grant at $17M, no MLE, and tighter trade restrictions or a $17M TPE (assume a sign and trade) and then someone like Gallinari signed with the MLE?  The down side of this is that it will extend the debate that we should use the TPE on a useless player just so that we can give away more picks to dump the useless player in future trade.  But the upside would be to use the TPE to get an actual useful player on a more commensurate contract.

Gallinari will be a big factor in this.  If they are convinced that he is ready to go and can play like he did in ATL the last few years, he is a perfectly fine Grant replacement, maybe even a net upgrade.  Plus we have Muscala now who I expect to improve much like White did (not be as good as White, but just be better acclimated with the team next season).  I don't think there is a need to overpay Grant.

Sure wish we could find and develop a solid back up center like Kessler.  We lack physicality inside, and pay for it against guys like Embiid and Jokic.
