Collins and Murray for Brown and Smart
Awful. Did you see Collins in the playoffs? And from all accounts Murray seems like a diva.

Quote
Oct. 1: First day that Jaylen Brown is eligible to sign a contract extension worth 120 percent of his 2023-24 salary, or $34.2 million per year.

The date still applies I believe but of course the amount is now extended.

My question is, can we trade him before Oct. 1, or even after, and could the new team sign the extension.  Or does Brown loss that super max eligibility if he is traded?

Why do we want to ship him for picks? We’d be lucky if any of those picks become an All-NBA player. I admit I didn’t think All-NBA was in the cards for JB. I thought he’d be an on-off allstar as his ceiling. Still really good but not all-NBA caliber.

Keep JB. That’s the correct answer
There is a very broad middle ground between keeping Brown and shipping him for picks
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I want him and after what I have seen in these playoffs, it's Tatum who I would ship off.

True. Yet broadly speaking Jaylen is our Bird in hand.

These Marcus highlights are great, but watch Jaylen at 1.21 mins of this vid defending the dunkerspot

https://youtu.be/veyupY4bGRk

I'm sorry but that is TOTALLY unforgivable in an elimination game.

And only 2 minutes had been played in the second quarter.

He is so casual on D if his direct man doesn't have the ball, and when his man does, he seems to react slowly to drives.

Nurkic and Lillard and two first round picks for Jaylen.

Thanks.

Not only are we taking approx. $23m too much in this deal, but we would be lucky to get Lillard straight up for Brown

Preserving his legs so he doesn’t fall splat in the ground on a drive later on?

Yeah - he ain’t perfect and this team as a whole does not know how to sustain an aggressive mindset when up double-digits. This is (much more than timeouts) my biggest concern for a coach. Why do you have a team that is talented enough to get a significant lead most nights but not sustain the intensity it took to get there?

JB to the Rockets is heating up, especially with Ime heading there.  I didn't realize that JB and Ime had become close.  So, poking around, I saw this online and I thought, [dang], what a package:

Celtics Get: Kevin Porter Jr., Alperen Sengun, Tari Eason, and four future first-round draft pick
Rockets Get: Jaylen Brown

I love JB and was one of the few who were thrilled when the C's drafted him, but I just might seriously consider this!

BTW, Congrats to second team All NBA!

To clarify, I'm in the #JKJB camp.  I was only bringing this up because with Ime going to Houston, it's going to get attention.

Thanks.

To make money work it would be Brown and Horford for Lillard and Nurmic.

Pipe dream trade #1 - Ayton, Shamet, Payne for Horford, Brogdon, Kornet, future pick.

Pipe dream #2 is Brown, Pritchard for #3 pick, Simons with Watford and Jabari Walker as filler.

Ayton. ROB. Watford
Tatum
White  Shamet Hauser
Simons Payne
Smart. Scoot

Pick between bring back Grant Williams or Galinari as backup 4.

I don't see either of those trades as pipe dreams. Both appear possible / probable (in terms of availability) to me.

Need to trade Smart & D White or A Simons for a legit forward (SF or PF) to start alongside Tatum. Too many guards. Scoot is the PG of the future here. Payne would be a good backup PG. I'd rather move the combo guards for wings / forwards / bigs.

I am more partial to just doing the first trade and not the second one. Keep JB.

G: Smart, Brogdon, Payne
G: D White, (Brogdon)
F: Jaylen, Hauser
F: Tatum, Gallo
C: Ayton, Timelord

The athleticism and speed of that starting frontcourt would be a sight to see. Or even dropping one of the combo guards and switching the Jays back to wing positions and acquiring a new PF to start alongside them; just imagine how physically imposing that group would be.

One thing I hadn't thought of until now with the Ayton trade proposals is just how bad of a passing combination Ayton & JB would be together in the same team. I wonder if they would need to move on from the combo guards and get a real ball-hander at guard. A true dribble drive threat. Someone who can get into the middle of thee paint.
