The QO is the first tangible signal.  They could still sign and trade Grant (and potentially use the MLE), but I doubt that they would rescind it.

My guess is that there is not going to be that much money out there for Grant.  The landscape has changed plus I think his value dropped back down a little.  $10M+ is a pretty big offer for Grant in this climate in my mind, and the Celtics would match that.  I don't see anyone offering enough that the Celtics wouldn't match.

I am going to predict he signs a short deal at or near the QO, with some player favorable opt outs or whatever they are, so he can get back into the market when he wants to and hopefully have a more favorable landscape.

You don't think a playoff team will throw the MLE at him?

At $10 million, I think he's easily moveable.  It's when we start talking about $13 million+ that I think he might become an albatross.

Bobby Marks said this morning he expects Grant to slot in at $12-14 mill in FA.

I thought all along that the MLE would be the floor but now I have my doubts.   The Celtics probably would just match that.

So Harrison Barnes, the Kings starting F signed for $18M/year, and Grant is worth $12-14M? That number seems way to high..

It would be a crazy scenario that we trade Grant to the Rockets for Alperen Sengun. We could include a pick. If the Rockets want to get older...

I don’t think we’d get Sengun.  The reasonable target would be Kenyon Martin Jr., who’s on a minimum deal and thus would allow the C’s to keep the MLE to use on a wing while acquiring a backup 4.

It would be an absolute shocker they rockets traded Sengun.  I'm not sure why but the Rockets didn't play Sengun a lot to begin the year.  He finished the 2021 - 2022 season strong and all indications he'd get heavy run.  They brought him off the bench to start the year until I believe it was Fernando?? that got hurt.  He then started the rest of the year but only got minutes in the mid 20's to start.  Once they let him loose he had some triple doubles and was just a force.  They got him with the C's pick through OKC that the C's traded to unload Kemba.  He was a guy I thought fit super well and could do all and more of the offensive things that Al did.  He's not a 3pt shooter at this time but can take and make them.  He's going to be good IMO.  Can't see the Rockets trading him.  Plus why would he want to be here as the 4th big when he's a starter on a lot of teams.  He could start next to Zinger but what do you do with Al and Rob.

The reason the Rockets buried Sengun starts with Victor and ends with Wembanyama.

Any salary that's lower than the full MLE will be much easier to trade, too, since the MLEs can be used as trade exemptions. If Grant signs for something around there for 3 years then his salary would be very easy to move next summer

Given that Grant Williams seemingly fell out of favor and Boston is staring down a tricky luxury-tax crunch, it’s possible the Celtics won’t be willing to match an offer sheet in the mid-to-high teens. The Cavs are monitoring the situation and Williams likely won’t have as many suitors as fellow restricted free agents Bridges, Johnson, Rui Hachimura or even P.J. Washington. – via Chris Fedor @ Cleveland Plain Dealer

Mid-to-high teens?  I should hope not.

Right, because those guys are better players. Lol.

Kuzma too

It's hard to compare Kuzma since he's unrestricted. Signing another team's RFA often means overpaying somewhat, since if it was a team-friendly deal the team that holds their rights can just match
I'm bitter.

I get you. I was mainly thinking positionally. If all the cap space teams take those forwards first, Grant's top offers would be the MLE at most. Jerami Grant is on that list too.

At this point I expect him to get the Full MLE for 3 or 4 years, with the last year being a player option. I lean toward 3 years with the option, making it harder for us to justify matching it since a 1+1 deal would be less attractive next summer. At that level, though, I hope we match it

I’m really curious to see what he gets…
