League sources tell MassLive that 2023 first round pick the Celtics are trading in Malcolm Brogdon deal is top-12 protected. If it doesn't convey this year, Pacers get a second-round pick instead.

Seriously can’t believe how good this deal is.

Per source - C’s goal is to continue with double big lineup, and that Malcolm Brogdon is viewed as a sixth man, behind Marcus Smart
Great let's keep starting the 36 year old who fades game to game, quarter to quarter. I really hope C's bring Al off the bench and don't run him into the ground.
They could also start him and play him 20 minutes a game vs the 30 that he averaged last season.

Brad hit the bullseye .  This made my day . :)

Been waiting for Brogdon to be a Celtic since he left UVA .  Exactly type player Brad loves.

He has real point guard skills .

Al will average 27mpg next year.  He still has enough left in the tank and should get plenty of nights off.  The c's biggest issue wasn't their starters.  Their bench was non existent.  Brogdon will be an early substitution.  JB and JT need their minutes reduced during the regular season.  Brogdon and Gallo allow the C's to cut minutes from the starters.  Rob and Al both will play 25mpg to keep them healthy.  JT will play some PF.  Grant and Gallo will get the rest of the big minutes with hopefully the signing of Bryant to soak up some center minutes and to spot start for Rob.  If the C's had Brodgon in the finals this year they'd have won.

Smart and Brown picks for KD now ?????

Totally an upgrade IF Brogdon/KD stay healthy. Big if, but a gamble I’d be willing to take if Brooklyn would do the deal (Smart and Brown have not exactly been Ironmen either)

Love this trade. Always liked Brogdon's game. He is a former 50/40/90 guy and a really good defender, once upon a time. I could easily see him being a 16/5/4 guy or better as a sixth man. I could also see him being part of a closing lineup of Smart/Brogdon/Brown/Tatum with either Horford or Timelord as the big.

Completely agree. I really didn’t like when both Smart and White were finishing games together as both are inconsistent shooters. Udoka would have JB, JT, Al(who was often reluctant to shoot), Smart and White. Swapping Brogdon for White this coming season is massive.

Why in god’s name wouldn’t they bring Smart off the bench? Brogdon is the best guard on the roster behind Brown. Should be starting. Just as good a defender as the “DPOY”.
The day I don’t have to see Smart’s horrific decision making as a main ballhandler…
Pray it’s coming soon

And this points to the only potential fly in the ointment with this deal - will Smart and Brogdon be able to co-exist?

Brogdon is absolutely one of the 5 best players on this team.

I don’t see why not. Brogdon can play off ball if needed and he could be the best shooter on the team. He did have a 50/40/90 season..

He’s not the best shooter on the team, but he is definitely a better off-ball shooter than on, so it’s a viable option.

Have any of the other Celtics players had a 50/40/90 season? Don’t believe so.
