Can we use our TPEs in a sign and trade? Eg if we like a FA and want to pay him $17 million can his current team sign him and trade him to us where we use the TPE and a draft pick?

Technically yes.  Practically no.

Acquiring any player via S&T would hard cap us around $5 million over the tax line.

Before signing anybody, we’re already about $8 million above the tax, I read.

So, to S&T for a $17 million player, we’d have to cut maybe $22 million in existing salary.
Ok. Thanks. Amazingly complex rules. Too bad.

Wendell Carter is an interesting guy to target as a long-term replacement for Al. I’d be very on board. I have no idea if Orlando would want Al plus whatever assets are required. Al ending his career in Florida would be cool, but I think we’d be regarded as villainous again, similar to the IT trade.

Eh, Al is the one who left us. And it took giving up a good 1st to reacquire him for the 'worst' years of his contract. It might not be an amazing look, but it would be more inconsequential.

Carter would be a nice Al replacement, but so would Isaac (assuming he's healthy). BOS and ORL seem to have a pretty good working relationship looking at recent deals (Fournier last year, Bol/Dozier this year), so it's entirely possible something could get done.

Yeah I like Issac, probably easier to get, would cost you Thies,Neismith and Pritchard, but I wouldn't give up any 1st round picks cause of his injuries. And With Rob hurt off and on, don't know if thats a good option, but would take a chance if options are slim.

Any major changes? Do we shake things up drastically, or try and keep the same core intact? Who do we draft? Any free agents?

What should we do? Because this bench won't cut it, and it's lost us this potential title.

What seems clear is Smart cannot be the primary ballhandler. He has neither the intelligence nor the skills.

Yes, we need more of a true skilled point guard like a Kyrie Irving or a Kemba Walker.

It was brought up earlier in this thread but what about Smart and White to Washington for Bradley Beal? Beal has a player option so he could tell Wash that he’ll decline his option if they don’t trade him to Boston - where he could team up with Tatum.

Then, We’d have 3 legit stars and could fill out the even worse depth with veteran ring chasers.

I think Smart would be a great player to rebuild around in terms of his bringing the fire and energy every night and getting his teammates to bring maximum effort.

Interesting but I like the Smart for Jalen Brunson idea better. I love that idea. Brunson would be perfect. Our ball handling issues wouldn’t be solved with Beal alone. I’m assuming we go after a vet pg in your scenario. I wonder if Dallas would entertain.

I'm going to just pretend that Wyc loses his mind and decides to go all-in, Golden State style.

#1.  Theis, Nesmith, Pritchard, 2023 #1 for Harrison Barnes
#2  TPE + 2025 #1 for Monte Morris
#3  TPE + multiple #2s for Josh Richardson, Jeff Green
#4 Sign Boogie, Avery Bradley and D.J. Augustin

Timelord / Horford / DMC
Barnes / Williams / Green / Hauser
Tatum / Richardson
Brown / White / Bradley
Smart / Morris / Augustin

Lol.  Open up that checkbook, Wyc.

That team would be so much fun. I love Monte Morris.

AB and Uncle Sleepy returning, as well as Boogie on the bench - great stuff. Do it Wyc!

Trade Nesmith, Theis, Pritchard for best available player. Carter? Isaac?

Get best available  PG with MLE or TPE.  Rubio?  Jones?

Move Horford to backup center role.

Top 9:

Smart
Rubio?
White
Brown
Tatum
Grant Williams
Isaac?
Horford
Rob Williams

Doing that for Isaac is a very interesting, exciting idea. I do think it’s a gamble, but a high-risk/high-reward gamble worth taking if it only costs us those three guys. Particularly if we can use the MLE to find a replacement for Pritchard, and then use the TPE on BPA. Isaac would have an amazing mentor in Horford and we could eventually transition to Horford backing up Isaac in a year or two.

Kenyon Martin Jr has asked the Rockets for a trade. I'd like to see him in Boston. Young, athletic, two way 3&D player.

He would be a good backup SF for BOS.

He’d be a great cheap pickup. Any rumours on what it would cost?
