I read brad wanted to get some young players like Miami. I hope we can develop someone out of the blue.
Time will tell. Moses Brown would be an idea. He did go for 20/20 against us.

Moses Brown is ineligible because we traded him away less than 12 months ago.

I think that's only true if we were the last team he was with. We can't trade back for him within 12 months, but since he was with another team, we could reacquire him.

I might be wrong.

I also have very minimal interest in him.
Does it even matter? Brown's spot of big man with small possibility of developing much and being man #15 on a 15 man roster is already taken by Kornet. How many centers with close to no NBA skills is the team expected to have on its roster when the roster is seriously lacking wing depth?

Because we were the team who traded him to Dallas, and Dallas is the team who released him, we can't resign him until a) 12 months has passed or b) his contract would have run out, whichever is less.  In this case that's 12 months.  Similarly, we traded Kanter, who was released by Houston.  Because Kanter's deal was scheduled to end at the end of the season, we could sign him in July, despite it being fewer than 12 months.

This is different than Tristan Thompson, for example.  We traded Thompson to SAC, but they then traded him to Indy.  If Indy buys out Thompson, he would be eligible to sign with Boston.

I took the short explanation in my original reply because Moses Brown didn't warrant something longer in my opinion.

For players we may be actually interested in, if Gary Harris is bought out, he cannot return to Denver until late March, which would be a year after he was traded by Denver to Orlando.  I mention this because I've seen Denver as a potential landing spot for Harris, and while that's still possible, they're at a bit of a disadvantage.  Contrarily, Miami is eligible to sign Goran Dragic immediately, because they traded him to Toronto, who subsequently traded him to San Antonio, who released him.

I fear we'll cheap out and sign no one of consequence.   We are not considered an A lister for this kind of stuff either.   Ring chasers will look elsewhere but I do feel we could be a great dark horse threat in the playoffs ( are we allowed to say that anymore? apologies if not)

And how many players of consequence are getting bought out?

The Celtics may not get ring chasers but maybe a younger player trying to re-establish their value for their next contract?

You can bet we'll get one of the worse ones, in all likelihood.

Gary Harris I think would help us the most.   He is defensive minded and can score.

We'll probably sign some G League guys

Yeah, no centers.

Ball handlers and shooters only.  I guess maybe a long, mobile, defense-oriented PF.

Here's how Larry Coon explains the rule:

Quote
A team cannot reacquire a player it traded away during the same season (a season for this purpose being defined as starting on the first day of the regular season and ending on the last day of the Finals). If the player was traded between seasons (i.e., from the first day after the Finals to the last day prior to the start of the next regular season), it cannot reacquire the player prior to the end of the next season. If he is waived by his new team, then he cannot re-sign with his original team until the one-year anniversary of the trade, or until the July 1 following the end of his contract, whichever comes first6. However, if a team trades a player's draft rights, it can reacquire the player during the same season.

Interestingly, a player can be traded to a third team, waived by the third team, and be eligible to re-sign with his original team before the waiting period expires. While this has not happened in practice, the league clarified its interpretation of this rule in 2017, in regard to a possible instance with Andrew Bogut.

So, Goran Dragic can be signed by Miami, because he went Miami -> Toronto -> San Antonio (third team) -> waived

But, we can't resign Brown, because his path was Boston -> Dallas (second team) -> waived

... How many centers with close to no NBA skills is the team expected to have on its roster when the roster is seriously lacking wing depth?

An opportunity opens up for Aaron Nesmith, an outcome that management doubtless took into account in their deliberations.
'I was proud of Marcus Smart. He did a great job of keeping us together. He might not get credit for this game, but the pace that he played at, and his playcalling, some of the plays that he called were great. We obviously have to rely on him, so I’m definitely looking forward to Marcus leading this team in that role.' - Jaylen Brown, January 2021

Someone might want to explain that to Udoka then because unless it's garbage time, Udoka isn't going to use him, IMHO. Two games post trade and Nesmith had zero minutes played.

I’m sorry, did someone say: Cheick Diallo?

I thought Brad Wannamaker played pretty well during his stint in Boston. I'm surprised he isn't playing with anyone.

He might be worth a 10 day contract to see if he fits in.  He's aggressive and has a high motor. Might be a good match for this team which plays up-tempo.

Tristan Thompson to Chicago.  Good riddance.

We really need to get a Wing in the buyout market. we literally have no one on the bench that can play SF.

Agree, this is what I think we need most.
Denzel Valentine is here and would be a low cost investment.

Anyone know what happened to Valentine in Maine? He only played in a few games and did well each time. He’s been DNP the last two games.
