Embiid cleared concussion protocols.

He's got to suit up tonight, right?

Yeah, I have to imagine he is going to fight his hardest to play.

There’s optimism Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid will return tonight in Game 3 vs. Heat, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. He has been fitted for a mask and will need to feel comfortable before green light. One of the NBA's great play-through-pain efforts recently.

I don’t love Embiid, but he makes every effort to suit up, especially in the playoffs.  Quite different from his former teammate.
and yet that former teammate missed less games (on a percentage basis) than Embiid did.

Embiid has played in 40 of 46 playoff games.
Simmons has played in 34 of 42.

Just making things up again.
Simmons missed 4 playoff games in Philly, the entirety of the 2019-20 playoffs when the Sixers were swept in 4 games in the playoffs.  He played all 10 games in 18, all 12 games in 19, and all 12 games in 21.

And the regular season is an even larger spread.

I was going to say the same thing.  You've got to respect a guy for being a gamer.  He must have absolutely hated playing with Simmons.

Absolutely.

Yup ……I kinda saw it that too,  he seemed like he was holding back on his real feelings.  I respect Embiid way more .

Honestly curious what your point is here? Simmons just willingly sat out 50 games. Does anyone think Embid would do this over hurt feelings?  It was widely reported that he was available to play before aggravating his back with the Nets. Also why are just ignoring the games he missed this year? Just to have an argument? This is just creating arguments over nothing unless you actually believe Embid would ever take his ball and go home like Simmons would. Cause I think you would be the only person on the board believing that.  TP to Celtics2021

Including the games Simmons missed this year, he missed a lesser percentage of games in Philadelphia than Embiid has.  They both missed 2 "full" seasons and in the other seasons, Simmons played more games.

And it sure does seem like Embiid could have played more than 31 games in his first 3 years.  In fact, this board debated that topic a lot at the time i.e. Embiid could go, but didn't.  Now some of that may have been the Sixers holding him out, but Embiid is rarely actually healthy for any length of time.  So whether he wants to play or not, doesn't make much difference when he can't actually play.

And missing games due to actual injury doesn't say anything about a player's work ethic and willingness to play.  Embiid missed his 1st two seasons due to his college foot injury and the 1st surgery failing.  And yet he worked his butt off during that off time and was a much better player when hit did get on the NBA court than he'd been in college.  On the other hand, Simmons has had many, many years to work on improving his jump shooting and he still won't shoot jumpers.

Very weird.  I thought he and I were about the only ones on here defending Embiid in those early years of bashing but maybe he was more oriented towards defending the Sixers.  Maybe he was one of those arguing the Sixers would be better off building around Simmons than Embiid before that became no argument at all.

I'll admit I was wrong about Embid. I did not think he would ever be this good or be able to stay as healthy as he has the last few seasons. I was dead on about Okafor and Saric tho, and have substantially less egg on my face overall from the famous all things Philadelphia thread. I didn't think Simmons would have as many issues as he has had (or complete lack of development) but I am happy I thought Tatum and Brown were both better than early on (which at the time was controversial, especially Brown).

Tweaked your statement.  Both had much different development paths.  Simmons was the coddled talent early on.  Spending all that time playing basketball and not developing even a bad jumpshot boggles my mind.  Embiid not starting basketball until he was 15 had no chance of making the NBA if he didn't have a good work ethic as well as a good aptitude for learning.

Jimmy Butler really enjoyed playing with Embiid.  I don't think the same can be said for Simmons.  I expect differences in work ethic and drive were predominant reasons.  Butler being a 30th pick didn't get to where he was without a strong work ethic and drive.

There's no question at all that Embiid has heart and he's a baller. Mad respect to him for even trying to play this series despite his injuries

I mean I'm pretty sure he only was just able to use his phone again two days ago since he has an orbital fracture and the light from his phone could affect him negatively early on with the injury.
