Lol there’s so much discussion on here about a Mavericks team that’s about to lose in 5

Cos it's way fun to armchair GM turning around a broken team.

Mavs - hire me. I may not know the cap that well (or at all to be honest), but I like basketball quite a bit.

Kevin Love is fantastic

Good for Kevin and great example for others. Start with the guy in mirror. Not always the most fun approach to improvement, but something we can all benefit from.

Tp for the post, Moranis. I have a lot of respect for Kevin Love as a player and a person. He’s been very honest about his struggles physically and mentally, as he suffered from severe anxiety and depression. Before last season ended I was hoping the C’s would consider trading Kemba for Kevin after he led the Cavs to a win over the C’s. He started that game, played 34mins and had 30pts, 14rebs, 3ast, 2stls while shooting 10-16 from the field, 4-6 from the field and 4-4 from the field. He looked like the Love of old.

There’s optimism Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid will return tonight in Game 3 vs. Heat, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. He has been fitted for a mask and will need to feel comfortable before green light. One of the NBA's great play-through-pain efforts recently.

I don’t love Embiid, but he makes every effort to suit up, especially in the playoffs.  Quite different from his former teammate.

I was going to say the same thing.  You've got to respect a guy for being a gamer.  He must have absolutely hated playing with Simmons.

and yet that former teammate missed less games (on a percentage basis) than Embiid did.

Is James Harden entering that Clyde Drexler joining the Rockets stage of his career?

Where Drexler was no longer able to be the franchise guy in Portland, his powers were declining and he was able to hop on Hakeem's back, let Hakeem be the man and the secondary star to provide Houston with more offensive variety to win a well a 2nd title.

Is this Harden's new stage in his career with Embiid as Hakeem? Harden no longer the franchise, declining powers but still potent as a secondary option. As a release valve when teams surround Embiid.

Drexler went from being a top 10 player to a top 20 player in that period. Is Harden going through the same transition - even if he gets his butt back in shape.
Harden is in year 13.  He has played 942 regular season games and another 145 in the playoffs.  He has been among the league leaders in mpg and played a ton of games every year (until the last 2).

He just has a ton of wear on his legs.  He may be done or maybe his hamstring is bothering him.  There was a 2 month stretch earlier this year (when KD was out) that Harden was looking like he in his near MVP form again.  So maybe the hamstring is slowing him down or maybe it just wasn't sustainable for him.  Be interesting to see what he looks like at the start of next year.

Harden is one of the most notorious players in the league for partying and going to strip clubs. He frequently comes into the season with a paunch. He even went off to a strip club in the middle of this season during the training deadline and some have speculated it is why he didn't get the paperwork done to opt-in as the deadline was that day) It is hard to imagine him making a dramatic change after 13 years in the league (you see a lot of players dedicate themselves to fitness, but it usually happens much earlier in their career like Jokic.). Harden did recently say he would accept less than the max, but I think he still wants pretty serious money. Will really be a disaster imo the last few years of a 5 year deal (even if it is like 40 million instead of 60 million).

Embiid has played in 40 of 46 playoff games.
Simmons has played in 34 of 42.

Just making things up again.

Agreed. Which makes loving guys like Brown, Timelord and Smart easy. All three are so special, as all three have appeared to push through injuries to not only be available but to excel on the floor.
