The Klay dilemma was also driving me bananas and will have me second-guessing for a while. I ended up oddly going with Roy's thought process on picking Klay that early, despite amazing fits, meant I likely would be taken out of the running -- of course I may have done that anyways with an even riskier pick
At the end of the day, my gut is that Klay will return to where he was but it's hard to make the argument directly in this format.
After seeing KD come back from an Achilles the way that he did, I’d be shocked if Klay didn’t do the same. Not in any way saying that Klay is KD, but he’s a hardworking humble guy who’s hungry to get back on the court, and doesn’t rely on his athleticism.
Even if Klay comes back a step slow, he’s still an elite all time great shooter. Worst case scenario he goes from an incredible defender to a slightly above average defender. I’ll take my chances, I think Klay comes back and has a monster year.
Like switch mentioned, it’s unfortunately not the same. He’s missed two full seasons, and will miss part of a third. He’s dealing with two major injuries, an ACL and an Achilles.
Hopefully there are no long-term side effects, but we just don’t know that for certain. If he’s a step slower on offense, that means he has a tougher time getting open. If he can’t move the same on defense, I think that the downside is a lot lower than above average.
It sounds like you have a pretty sympathetic crowd here, so it may not affect you in the voting as much as I expected. I know for myself, however, I just have no certainty about where he is going to end up next year.
But ultimately, you ended up with a guy it was a lot of fun to root for, and if he’s healthy he’s a steal.
