Huh. This was unexpected. I had decided on this guy for my pick in the last round (early 3rd) before Gobert unexpectedly dropped so I am quite happy to take him now (late 4th).

Knicks take CJ McCollum.
I'll be honest, I've never been particularly high on McCollum. He's a great scorer, but after that... eh. Bit of a tweener. Not really a good enough playmaker to be a lead guard, but lacks the size and defense to defend shooting guards. He needs to very specific type of guard next to him to reach his potential, and idk if LaVine is that imo.

Yes, but Luka is.

I am the same as you as with CJ McCollum. I have not been particularly high on him throughout his career. Lower than most I expect. Too small and weak defensively to be a SG and too limited a floor general / playmaker to be a lead guard.

On this fantasy game though, I feel he is a great fit next to a big playmaking wing such as my guy Luka or James Harden or LeBron James. Someone that can be that lead guard and take on those PG responsibilities on offense and allow CJ to concentrate on being a scorer ... while also letting him defend PGs who CJ can defend reasonably well (unlike bigger SGs).

So on offense

PG: Luka Doncic
SG: CJ McCollum
SG: Zach LaVine

On defense

PG: CJ McCollum
SG: Zach LaVine
SF: Luka Doncic
Now that I think about it, I agree that it definitely great for offense. It's the defense is where it starts to get a bit weird. With the talent you currently have, you're basically asking LaVine to guard to best perimeter scorer on the opposing team. I think that's asking for a bit of trouble. Of course, there are plenty of rounds to remedy this problem, and I have little room to talk about defense with my team  ;D.

Sounds like real-life Utah with its plethora of average defenders and Gobert being asked to save them, except the offence would be monumentally better.

I think adding one defensive-minded player to the mix would really aid this team. There's a couple I think would fit nicely.

I wasn't planning on making this selection, but as I look at the list I continue to be drawn to selecting Malcolm Brogdon. An under-the-radar 50/40/90 candidate who can rebound for his position, move the ball, and give us yet another playmaker. With his playmaking and spacing next to some or all of Steph, Simmons, and Bam, we think we are building a roster with tons of flexibility. He's a competent defender with a long wingspan who can guard multiple positions. We're happy to have another easy guy to cheer for (to balance out the guy who isn't  :))

I really like Brogdon. In a game full of ball dominant guards, he a good fit next to a bunch of great scorers.

I love Brogdon. There was no real place for him on my team, but talent-wise he belongs in this round. Really heady, reliable player who can play on and off-ball. Both your guards being real shooting threats who can be both on and off-ball is a dangerous thing when you've got high-level playmaking from your bigs.

So far probably the team of the tournament for me. One of a couple that come to mind, but I think the best of the bunch.

Thought he was an ideal 4th round pick. His value really showed in the playoffs. Good guy to have alongside others who can score.

I had a whole write-up about how I was going to make him work, but he simply wasn't going to. Great selection! He's a huge upgrade over Lopez and a great complement to Giannis. Hard to think of a better fit for him.

DeAndre Ayton is the guy I was wondering about relative to Gobert in the last round.

Who is the better player?

I wanted to ask and see what people's opinions were.

Always willing to talk trade.

Looking to move my 6th into the 5th.

Might be willing to move down or out of 5th as well, depending how far down.

Hit me up with PMs.

I think right now, you have to go Gobert because he's done it consistently for a longer period.
