Re: Smart. He's seeking a max extension (approximately four years, $80 million; same money the team doesn't want to pay Evan Fournier), and still faces a tough negotiation. Celtics are targeting 2022 free agency.

Trade him ....

There's a serious disconnect in the NBA between what a player thinks he's worth and his real world ability.

You guys are better at this than I am, but here goes...

I love Lowry's game, but, I think Riley is way off spending his money on Lowry.

Just don't see it as a great match and I repeat, Lowry is a top player, but don't like the "match" in Miami which is good because, Pat Riley is the enemy.
Don't get the fascination with Lowry. Nice player, but imo he's overrated. No way I'd give him 3 years, $60 million at the age of 35.

Main potential suitors for Evan Fournier in free agency right now beyond Celtics as dust settles from initial deals: Knicks, Spurs, Pelicans

Fournier would be nice on the Spurs

Portis re-signs with the Bucks for 2 years, $9 million. Second year is a player option. That's an absolute bargain for the Bucks! Didn't expect him to stay in Milwaukee tbh.

I’m shocked he settled for that deal so quickly.

How on earth did Zach Collins get more than double Bobby Portis did?? I thought Portis would be a legit MLE candidate.

Maybe he's taking a discount to try and win another ring before cashing in with his option

Spurs spending all their money on mediocre role players. What happened to that organisation?

Yeah I said the same thing in the other thread.  Why so low?  I guess winning might be good for his future contracts.

A reminder to our fans that “cap space” doesn’t mean much if nobody wants to play for you.

Yeah I worry about that for next year.  We throw everything into one plan to clear cap space for one year and what happens if no one wants to sign?

He really wanted to be there.  They only had non-Bird rights, and this was the most he could get with that.  He’ll have Ealry bird rights next year for a larger deal, and this year he gets a no-trade clause plus security with an option.

This is starting to feel like Danny’s masterplan for AD. We know how that ended.

$20mil a year seems like the going rate for a player like Marcus Smart. He should not be looking for anything less than that.

There are several top tier free agents on the market next summer. If your going to go all in on clearing cap space to land one of them, next summer is the right time to do it.

This season will be all about Tatum, Brown, Stevens and Udoka selling Boston as a premier destination for those top tier free agents.

Tim Duncan retired. He was the organization.
