Ughh, I hate losing Theis. Wagner's option was declined, so this is more of an audition than a piece to add to our young core.
Also Teague and Javonte? I get that they aren't huge impact players, but our team is young enough. Will be interesting to see the final details. Hopefully we have an extension in place for Fournier and we are at least recouping one of those 2nds we traded for him.
Interesting. So we dumped three FAs for another FA?
Except we don’t have Wagner’s Bird rights:
However, if the team declines either option and the player becomes a free agent, the team cannot re-sign him to a salary greater than he would have received had the team exercised its option. In other words, teams can't decline an option year in order to get around the rookie salary scale and give the player more money. This applies to all types of signings, including the Bird exception, the Mid-Level exception, and cap room.
Correct. Although we could still offer him a 1-year deal for $3.9 million, which includes a no-trade clause and full Bird rights the following offseason, so the Celtics could certainly make a competitive offer if they like what they see from Wagner over the next 2-3 months.
