Per a source: Acquiring Evan Fournier doesn't take Boston out of the mix to trade for Aaron Gordon. Celtics and Magic are still engaged in discussions for Gordon.

So if we add Fournier with the TPE, then we would need to make the Gordon trade work on its own without adding even more towards the tax.  How do we get to $18M+ outgoing for Gordon?

Smart and Thompson.

Maybe, although I think that ship has sailed.

I like Fournier a lot. Good deal. But are we using the majority of the Hayward TPE on this? It doesn’t propel us into contention, and takes us out of the running for bigger fish in the summer. Maybe this is the first domino to fall?

Not necessarily.   There could always be a sign and trade to create a new TPE or recover a 2nd round pick.

There has to be more to this deal, otherwise it's spending money to put a nice new sail on a sinking ship.

Isn't the only way to do this, if Smart is included in the deal??

Can't see Danny trading Smart and Nesmith for Gordon.   Maybe trying to work some kind of three way?

my gut feeling is that Magic like Nesmith

Yep.   For a time limited space.

It’s funny, Fournier was one of the first names that came up when we acquired the TPE.

Idk we're getting a 20 pt scorer for the price of only two mid to late second round picks. That's practically nothing.

yup

Thats who I listed first or second

He is avg 19 ppg.  He should help boost the offense and give Jays a break

Cs reportedly aren’t done. This opens the possibility of closing with the Js and Fournier as your three wings. Meaning no Smart hero ball, and another guy the opposing defense cannot safely leave to help on the Js. He doesn’t turn it over, he shoots 39% from 3, and he can absolutely attack a closeout. Not a PG but a secondary ballhandler and okay passer. He can help score during the game to keep the Js fresher, and then he’s there at the end.

He'll help -- this season.

They can't afford to re-sign him unless they make additional moves this summer.

I'm already at the point where I'm pretty much discounting the value of any addition that is limited to this season.  This season is a wash already.

Well regardless if Danny makes another move or not.  Roster spot needs to be created

so I imagine one of Waters, Edwards, Tacko, Green are goners

Danny probably trying to extract a 2nd somehow

They used two second rounds picks, on top of the two second rounders they used to get the TPE in the first place.  That's not nothing.

My hope is that this reduces Smart's burden in the offense and bumps Javonte Green off of the roster.

Good deal, and good use of the TPE in my opinion.  We were never going to land a long-term star with it.  The fact that we managed to use it on a solid player, albeit an expiring one, is fine by me.
