I like the trade itself. But is this really how we're using most of the TPE?? He's also an expiring deal so this feels like a "win-now" kind of move. Or does Danny have another move up his sleeve?

The Magic will create a $17.15M trade exception as part of the deal.

The Celtics trade exception will decrease from $28.5M to $11.05M.

Would a Fournier trade take up $17M of the TPE, or a prorated portion?

How much luxury tax would Wyc need to pay?

I can't see him wanting to pay tax for Fournier addition

Doesn't something else need to happen

Fournier has a $17.15M cap hit that will now get adjusted to $17.45M.

The $300K increase is a result of 2 sets of bonuses- 2nd rd. of the playoffs and Conf. Finals now being deemed likely (BOS reached both last yr).

BOS is $1.6M over the tax and need to open up a roster spot.

Boston is in serious talks to acquire Orlando guard Evan Fournier for two second-round picks, sources tell ESPN.

$17M is a big chunk of the TPE.  Danny said that he didn't want to use this for an expiring.  In isolation, I do not feel this would go down but if it is part of a broader deal involving Gordon, great.  Woj knows better than me though.

Yeah, in a vacuum, it doesn’t make sense.  But it does if it’s part of a broader deal for Gordon.  I’ll be thrilled if they get both Gordon and Fournier.

I don't think AG is coming to Boston. Why would Orlando do 2 separate deals in the same day for 2 different players. Its probably not going to happen if we get Fournier.

The TPE  cannot be used in conjunction with both AG and Fournier. We would need to send back players/salary to get both, TPE's cannot be combined with outgoing players

looks like is in the bag

roster spot will still need to be created.   I wonder how many teams will try to pursue Tacko  ;D

We would have to get some other team to take on about $2 million in salary from us. It doesn’t seem like a gargantuan feat.

Tacko doesn’t take up a roster spot, so he is probably safe.

So if we add Fournier with the TPE, then we would need to make the Gordon trade work on its own without adding even more towards the tax.  How do we get to $18M+ outgoing for Gordon?

So we really need to get under the tax threshold,  which will reset the repeater tax clock by several years, theoretically giving the organization more money to resign Timelord/Fournier etc down the road

I like Fournier a lot. Good deal. But are we using the majority of the Hayward TPE on this? It doesn’t propel us into contention, and takes us out of the running for bigger fish in the summer. Maybe this is the first domino to fall?
