Fournier for picks only puts the Celtics on the tax and exposes them to the repeater. I think there is more to this deal or another deal (with or without Orlando) that is coming soon.

yeah

but how?

Someone else would need to absorb Smart with their TPE.....  ??

I don’t know why you think it has to be Smart.  The Celtics have a lot of players who could be moved, and Tristan Thompson seems the most likely to me.

Second rounders aren't that much, but it's still throwing good money after bad.

Because Smart is killing the Celts with his late game bricks

He has done it three games in a row now

There has to be more to this deal, otherwise it's spending money to put a nice new sail on a sinking ship.

Sinking ship ? Fournier is a great add. For nothing

Yep.   For a time limited space.

They used two second rounds picks, on top of the two second rounders they used to get the TPE in the first place.  That's not nothing.

Why are you complaining? You sat here a couple years ago drooling over a ‘Lou Williams’ type bench player. This guy is the same type scorer off the bench. For nothing.

I still don’t believe it’s just 2 seconds. Nobody on here does that deal if you’re Orlando

A couple years ago the Celtics were a team with hopes of going far in the playoffs.

This move would be a home run for a team with a real shot at going deep in the playoffs.

For anyone who still sees this Celtics team that way, I totally get the appeal of this trade.  That's not my perspective at this point.

If you can acquire a player in ANY SEASON for two second rounders, you do it and run like you stole something.

No way in my mind you don’t get at least Boston’s late first rounder for this player

It’s funny, Fournier was one of the first names that came up when we acquired the TPE.

yup

Thats who I listed first or second

He is avg 19 ppg.  He should help boost the offense and give Jays a break
In the regular season? Absolutely. Just don't expect anything great from him in the playoffs - he falls off a cliff against strong defences due to his skillset (the best way I can explain it is that his skills are 'loose', he doesn't have a tight handle, takes a beat to find open teammates with choppy delivery, doesn't have a particularly quick release with accuracy that falls off a cliff when his shot is rushed, doesn't have an arsenal of moves that he can rely on to create separation or openings, etc) and subpar athleticism.

Don't forget he didn't have much room in Orlando

In some ways he was the go to scorer from the perimeter

With the Celts he will have much more space working with Jays and Walker
He was the 'go to scorer from the perimeter' in the regular season. The Magic realised that he was getting neutered badly in both of their playoff series and immediately got a couple of players to shoulder the bulk of the offensive load on the perimeter instead of him (Augustin and Gordon against the Raptors, Ross, Augustin and Fultz against the Bucks) and he was still very poor.
Jaylen Brown for All-NBA

Man I love Fournier.  He gives the C's a lot of what Gordon did.  Scoring, Shooting, Playmaking, D.  Same height but Gordon is a little thicker.  Gordon better FT shooter but Fournier is still 80%.  Both get to the line 4-5 per game.  Hayward the better rebounder but for 2 - 2nds and TPE it's a win.  He's exactly what they need.  The question is who starts.  Fournier or Smart?  I'd prefer Fournier with Smart the first sub and JT and Fournier the first to the bench with Kemba and Brown the pairing and Fournier and JT the other pairing.  End of game.  Kemba, Fournier, Brown, Tatum and Theis.  Smart subs in for D and out for O.  Last shot of the game you have 4 shooters and a lob threat.  Love this lineup for last nights game vs smart on the floor.

IN Boston, his job will be the floor stretcher in the corner when Tatum, Brown and Walker are on the floor or the 2nd option when only one of them are on the floor.

Yeah, I just don't agree.

I like Evan Fournier.  I'll enjoy watching him on this team.

I don't see the wisdom of using any assets, however minor, to bolster this squad.

Can’t wait to watch him on a talented team like this one. Fits his game to a tee.

Makes me think Smart and/or Pritchard might be out the door.

Definitely an incremental improvement! Fournier is solid. I was totally expecting the TPE to expire on us for nothing. It’s not my money so something is better than nothing! It also gives us a needed shooter off the bench.

Fournier isn’t a world beater but I mean, you can’t realistically have a team full of Giannises and Middletons. You need role players who likely wouldn’t amount to much on a non-contender, but would look real good when fulfilling specific roles
