All talk, deadline will pass with no moves and they will make excuses.

Danny has always negotiated from the position of strength.
When he is the initiating party in trade talks he seldom has done deals. That’s why you have heard his generic excuses / comments after each trade deadline he stands pat.
He has to find a trading partner that doesn’t expect us to blow them out with our offer. I’m not sure he’s capable of that.

Harrison Barnes to me feels like the ideal target right now, and a realistic one. He's still just 28 years old (so it's not like he's some 35-year old veteran who is limited). Got size at 6'8", and so far this season is averaging 17/6 on 50% shooting and 41% from behind the arc.

Last night against us, while he didn't shoot as well (I think 7-18), he gave the Kings 24/6/5 and made an impact. He would be a great 3rd or 4th option on this team and give the Jays some help. Gives the team another playmaker too and a little Kemba insurance.

Imagine how good we'd be with a 23/5/4 guy on 50/43/86 splits!
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I love that this would put Marcus back on bench . Jaylen creating instead of Marcus . Barnes can be the guy standing still waiting for catch and shoot at the corner. Or  would we operate even better using Kemba like the Heat use Dragic off bench. Someone here I think suggested that. The jays running pick and roll much more instead of Marcus.

I don’t think it’s allowed for one year so just in time tpe  to expire 😬

I think similarly - either make an ok trade with the tpe or don’t use it at all. Don’t make a trade just because the tpe might expire unused

The Cs are on the clock. They have 4 years to basically convince those guys to think about staying in Boston. The reality is it’s unlikely that both of the Js stay in Boston for a 2nd deal.

I think if Jaylen is eligible for the super max extension ( similar to the one Giannis got) he would stay. Now Tatum is tough to read but he seems ok being high usage star and not having to be the vocal leader. I don’t see Tatum as a player that would want to win on his own.
Now if there is a superstar in a team with max cap space ( lakers anyone lol) he might be convinced to leave but again give him the super max and chances are he stays.

But if Danny keeps bringing 4-5 g leaguers every season I can see them get frustrated and threaten to leave.

an interesting point. would you be able to show the data that supports this point? or perhaps links to sources that confirm this?

thanks.

cripes. that is one long ass clock. i think many GMs wish they had that kind of time.  ;D

I've been thinking for a little while now that Tatum ends up a Laker. Kobe was his main basketball inspiration, plus Tatum is gaga over LeBron, so I can easily see Tatum landing there 4 or 5 years from now.

My guess is that statement is true for every GM.  For every deal that gets done, I suspect there are many more discussions that come up empty.  It’s not just a Danny thing.
