This trade also kind of fits what Ainge was saying:
Timelord + Carsen + 1st rd pick (top 20 protected)
 For
George Hill + Mike Muscala

We get size and shooting plus ok defense and some play making

Yuck, Mike Muscala is utter rubbish. Not giving up TL and a pick in that exchange, especially with how well TL has played this year

Keith Smith has a great article about Ainge's radio appearance
https://www.celticsblog.com/2021/2/4/22266370/danny-ainge-is-looking-for-shooting-with-size-with-the-boston-celtics-trade-exception

Alex Kennedy gives the key points here,

Alex Kennedy
@AlexKennedyNBA
Danny Ainge said that the Celtics want to add "shooting with size" prior to the trade deadline.

Recently, Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca was on Clubhouse and said something similar. Pagliuca said that Boston wants to add a power forward who can shoot

Bottom line it sounds like DA wants to make a move at the deadline using the TPE to acquire a PF who can shoot and not negatively impact the team defensively.

Players who jump out as fits to those parameters

Harrison Barnes
Aaron Gordon
JaMychal Green
Kyle Anderson
Otto Porter

Exactly what I have been saying.  We need a PF with some pop/skill.

I would add Thad Young to the list.

The statement is a PF who can shoot, or shooting with size, but I think that is too narrow.  I say a PF who can score and/or create.  Shooting can be (probably is) a part of that but I see no need to focus on only players that shoot xx% or better from 3.

We have a couple of decent defensive minded "blue collar" bigs (Theis and Thompson) but we don't have a big that is going to make a defense take notice of his ability to score.  I am thrilled to hear that is what they are out there looking for.
beat me to it.  Thad Young immediately came to mind on this

Here's my list of people I'd be ecstatic with using the TPE on:

Harrison Barnes: 17PPG, 6RPG, 4APG, 50% FG, 41% 3P, 87% FT. Championship experience, has been a consistent 17+ on good efficiency over the last 4 years, plays solid defence. He'd be my #1 target.

Aaron Gordon: 14PPG, 7RPG, 4APG, 43% FG, 37% 3P, 61% FT. Not as consistent on offence as Barnes, but he's a better playmaker and a more dynamic athlete. Currently out hurt with a severe ankle sprain though, and won't be back until March :/

John Collins: 18PPG, 8RPG, 2APG, 56% FG, 42% 3P, 80% FT. Probably the most dynamic offensive force we could look to acquire. He's been a 20/10 guy for 3 years now, on insane efficiency. Doesn't add much defensively, but with his athletic tools and a good defensive coach maybe he could grow there.

Nikola Vucevic: 23PPG, 11RPG, 4APG, 48% FG, 43% 3P, 84% FT. Likely not who DA has in mind, given he's a true centre, but Vuce is a star and I would love him here. Not nearly as realistic as many of the others given he's arguably a top 5 offensive big in the league, but I won't stop advocating for my binkie!

Gorgui Dieng: 9PPG, 5RPG, 2APG, 55% FG, 52% 3P, 84% FT. Over the last two seasons has developed an actual perimeter jump-shot, shooting 38% on 2.4 attempts over the last two seasons. He's playing really elite defence this year too, and has improved his passing. Problem is he's a centre, and of a similar calibre to all our others.

There are others, but I don't know how much they fit the bill of shooting with size. Guys like Terrence Ross and Wayne Ellington.

I’d be happy with any of the top three, Collins or Barnes being the most desirable.

What is Collins’ max?

Not to nit pick but Barnes makes $22M this season.  We are absolutely hard capped at the apron level which is about $139M.  I have our current salary at $119 so the absolute most we can take in is about $19M-$20M, and with that, we become a tax payer.  Now I get that we can probably figure out a way to shed $2M-$3M (Grant Williams, is about $2.5M as a candidate).  Barnes would be a nice upgrade over Grant Williams, no doubt, but I think it is unlikely that they go into the tax for Harrison Barnes.

In round numbers, we can take in $13M-$14M and stay under the tax apron.  My bet is that the real objective is to find some shooting with size in the $14M price range but that they are not going to say the second part out load.

That said, I am thrilled to hear they are active in the market.

Anyone wanna suggest a package that could actually land John Collins? Curious to hear what folks think it would take....

I don't know the situation, maybe others can fill in.  Is he making noise about wanting to leave the organization?  He would be a restricted FA correct (so team still has control, ability to match or S&T)?  Is there really any incentive for ATL to trade him unless blown away by an offer?

I am not sure that an offer starting with Marcus Smart would blow them away so are we going to have to put Jaylen Brown on the table?  Seems that way to me.  That is why I don't give Collins much thought.  I don't want to trade Brown and I don't think Smart and a puu puu plater of picks and young players gets it done.

Dunn would be great off the bench here. Can run the point and defend 1-3. Keen to see him return from injury

Getting Dunn back would be nice, but aspirational. And I'd not want to see Williams in the deal, but agree Smart is the logical starting point.

Maybe:

Collins, Snell, and Rondo for Smart, one of Langford or Nesmith, Teague, and a pick?

These are small forwards aren’t they ? I thought PJ Ticker fits the description

Green has played only at PF. Porter only at SF. Anderson has been primarily a SF, Gordon has been primarily a PF. Barnes has played both forward positions extensively.
