Ugh. Does this mean we won't even get a TPE?
Charlotte can sign him outright now but teams could still do a TPE. Cs would likely give CHA like a second rounder or something.

I'm aware it can still happen, I just don't see Charlotte's motivation now. They're pretty much paying Hayward $39m a year (yikes), is a 2nd enough for them to bite?

Signing and trading makes no difference to them at all.

They still get an asset for free.

They were the ones who backed themselves into paying gordon 30 plus 9 mill a season. Not us.

They wanted him really bad for some reason

This has no impact on getting a tpe.
'21 Historical Draft

SG: Reggie Miller / Jeff Hornacek / Nick Anderson
SF: George Gervin / George McGinnis / Kyle Korver
PF: Connie Hawkins / Serge Ibaka / Josh Smith
C: Clint Capela / Bill Laimbeer / Jusuf Nurkic

Was Jordan playing hardball with Danny? The Celtics can keep their max slot by taking Batum, or get nothing at all if Charlotte has to waive Batum to get under the cap.

I think it matters. I think part of the delay here is that Charlotte wanted to bounce Batum's contract on us, and basically said "take it or leave it". And at the end of the day, the Batum contract is better than Hayward walking for nothing, because a least it could be flipped at the deadline as an expiring, valuable for a team looking to clear space.

Unfortunately we will have to send an asset or two to Charlotte to get the tpe.. then we have to send more assets to assume players into the TPE unless they are overpaid... not the greatest outcome. I would still prefer the turner plus a first round pick deal.
So Jordan is out of his mind to stretch batum but it’s his money so he can do what he wants.
Is anyone here hoping we get batum for the BAE?
Refuse to believe that Indy offered a 1st rounder. There was zero mention of a pick prior to Hayward announcing he was going to Charlotte for a boat load more money.

Indy needed to explain to their fanbase why they lost out on the local boy and suddenly Indy is claiming they offered a first.

I'm not buying that. It's just damage control.

It was literally impossible for us to take Batum.  We are hardcapped, or will be once TT signs.

Also Batum is bad, so it's not better.

Danny had to add 2 2nd round picks though but we receive a conditional 2nd back. The exception is way more valuable than any 2nd rounder though

Right there with the 1st rounder necessary to offload Poirier like some were saying ;)

Good move. I'm surprised Danny was willing to give up the picks, but it's fair value.

Interested to see how this gets used.  It'll most likely be split up between multiple players, I have to think.

Any advantage of paying Thompson with TPE and using MLE to sign another player like GR?
