I'd really love to get a stud player like Beal (not even sure he fits into a TPE) or Hield. Both of those guys would make us incredibly formidable on offence.

But I don't know if it's particularly realistic. I think the more likely move will be going after some vet experience, as our roster is quite young.

Beal doesn't fit into the TPE. To get him we would need to trade Walker (or give up way too many players and value).
That's what I suspected, but it turns out our TPE is $28.5m and not $27.9...

Says who?

Sounds like the TPE does fit Beal's contract

Beal is 28.8 mill, can we send money to make it work? Didn't we get cash in one of these trades? I could also see working some thing in a three was with Kings and they can send Heild to the Wizards since Heild is a bit out of the Kings plans with Fox and Bagely.

I'd be cool with Barnes too.

stop posting like beal is on the market.  he isn't and if he was it would start with brown.

Why not???

Beal sing with WASH because Wall talked him into it. Then Wall asked for a trade cuase he didn't want to play second fiddle to Beal. Beals contract is easier to move and is healthier than Wall that we know of. Beal and Tatum are tight, this gives WASH the flexibility to reset by either letting Wall prove his worth again, and move him at the deadline or summer, or us the TPE with some one that wants out like Heild.

Plus what else are we going to do for the next couple weeks or until it's used or expires? LOL

Any advantage of paying Thompson with TPE and using MLE to sign another player like GR?

FWIW, I posted this a week ago. I believe Tom Penn was the analyst.

FWIW: NBA TV "Free Agent Fever" analyst says Cs will likely use any TPE from CHA on TT to save the MLE.

I didn't think you could sign free agents with a TPE? Does this mean S&T?

Plus who is left to give the MLE to?

Celts dont really have the assets to get him

Danny will not flip 5 1sts. That is his game.

Maybe Smart, Langford or Nesmith, Timelord,  2 1sts does the trick.  But either Langford or Nesmith games would need to accelerate quickly

Exactly. I like guys like GR3, Ilyasova, Shaq Harrison or Korver. But they're all BAE or Vet Min guys. Unless we want to save it for a buyout, but that seems dumb to me

Anybody know how many trade exceptions have been used in the past? Or who has been acquired through a TPE?

https://twitter.com/BobbyMarks42/status/1333152037614268421

Marks is a little misleading here. There are valid cap and tax reasons why you don't use them that the Cs are not facing and there are a lot of small exceptions generated that cannot be combined. We're obviously not in that boat either.

I'd expect we'd use some decent portion of this at the very least.

Yeah I'd be shocked if Ainge doesn't use most or all of this TPE.

Apart from current contracts there's also the option of sign and trades to add a player (longterm) to the roster (which creates a TPE again for the other team). Some options next off-season:

Spencer Dinwiddie (Brooklyn), Josh Richardson (Dallas), Richaun Holmes (Sacramento), Victor Oladipo (Indiana), Evan Fournier (Orlando), John Collins (Atlanta), Lauri Markkanen (Chicago), Markelle Fultz (Orlando).

Some teams need the cap space for a big free agent (and have to renounce cap holds on their own free agent or sign-and-trade for a valuable TPE). Others are afraid to overpay for their free agent and would welcome a TPE instead.

Well using the TPE for a S&T would trigger the hard cap for the c's again next season. With Tatum's contract kicking in the c's have 109 million committed to Kemba/Smart/Tatum/Brown out of the 140 million (estimated) hard cap. And they'd still need to fill out the rest of their roster. So its hard to see them using a significant amount of the TPE on a S&T next year without dumping one of their core 4.
