Pacers reporter for the athletic has gone on record saying Hayward would have taken the hometown discount and Ainge was the reason the deal didn’t go through.

This was my assumption all along and got crushed on this forum for even suggesting it. Hayward got compared to Antoine Walker and assumptions were made that 20 mil meant more to him then being with family when the dude is already worth 200+ million
How many reports since before he opted out suggested the deal was in place with Indy, that he wanted Indy? These weren’t beat reporters they were coming from credible insiders like Shams and Stein.
Green teamers need to stop drinking the Kool aid and realize the Celtics front office is broken and needs a change. Ainge royally screwed us by needing to “win” a trade.
Who cares if you don’t like Turner and McDermott they were assets and filled cap space that we can no longer fill. Losing Hayward for nothing is an abomination.
It’s sickening
Not exactly an objective source...
Maybe not objective but athletic reporters are credible, they’re not Twitter beat guys.
Are Stein and Shams no longer credible either? Why were their statements of Hayward wanting Indiana not credible to you?
Why is it so hard to believe that maybe just maybe Hayward had enough and settled for Charlotte? How long do you think Charlotte would have waited on him with that contract?
What if it was now or never and A trade was at a stalemate?
Hayward is a man of family and faith first. If you have 200 million in your bank account and faith and family were more important to you then basketball you wouldn’t consider a slight haircut to have those things for the next four years? His children’s children’s children children are already set for life.
Because he’s a Pacers reporter getting his info from Pacers source, thus bringing into question his objectivity and the reliability of his info and perspective. Shams and Stein are not necessarily connected to singular teams like that, and they’ve both got long histories documenting their reliability.
Look, I think people want to blame Danny because of this unfortunate loss, but I just don’t see it. At most, I think you could make the argument that Danny just wasn’t sold on Turner, and he didn’t feel that he brought enough value to justify adding him and McDermott’s salary by themselves.
But I think this notion that he was just being greedy and overplayed his hand is nonsense, and I think this seems clear to me that this was all about money in the end and neither Boston nor Indy were willing to pay that price.
