Current status of Hayward situation:

The Indiana Pacers remain the preferred destination for Gordon Hayward as a free agent, though it will require the participation of the Boston Celtics in a sign-and-trade.

Hayward's proposed deal with the Pacers would be in the four-year, $100 million range.

The New York Knicks remain interested in Hayward, but have held firm on a lower salary figure. The Knicks have shown some willingness to go beyond their initial two-year offer.

Interesting that he's saying "sign and trades with multiple teams". Seems clear at this point that Hayward is working with C's to get a deal done that will compensate us, though the preference is Indy. Clearly there's not this animosity there that people keep claiming and perhaps an extension or resign here for at least a year is a realistic option.

I posted yesterday that I doubt Hayward would give the royal finger to Brad on his way out. He is clearly trying to help the Cs  and the Cs will not betray him either.

I disagree.

He wants to go to indiana, and he wants the Celtics to get him there.

Indiana knows it and ar low balling offer on trade returns.

Hayward is not "playing ball" he wants his cake and eat it too and is expecting the celtics to accommodate it.

If the S&T for turner doesn’t happen are there any centers left?
Noel is the only one I can think

That's a heck of a lot of money for Jerami Grant
Grant gets 3yr/60M while Harrell only gets 2yr full MLE.  Something does not compute.

Well, if your “agent” has already made up his mind you’re headed to the Lakers, it limits your options.
Would you want to play in Charlotte?  Because by all reports he only got offered more money than the MLE from Charlotte.  Now who knows what the Clippers may have offered as that hasn't been reported, but Harrell is one of the players that was complaining about the culture and fit and he really liked Doc.  So if you are going to leave the Clippers and don't want to go to a bad team, you are pretty much limited to the MLE and he got the full non-taxpayer MLE on essentially a one year deal.  So he will enter free agency again next year and may improve his stock considerably if the defense of Davis rubs off on him and he improves his metrics on that end.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

By my count the Joe Harris signing puts the Nets about 16 million dollars over the luxury tax. Are they gonna start next season with that team or move someone?

I doubt they make any significant moves.  16M is not much since they aren't a repeater.  They've got their 2 stars and good, deep team around them.

Expected to stay in BKN, but didn't think it'd be at that much.

That is ridiculous. He is a one dimensional shooter. A borderline starter. And they are giving him nearly $20mil a year? That is insane.

$75mil for 3 years. Joe Harris.

https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1329981103214645248

This guy is even more one dimensional - even worse on defense. It is hard to see him starting on any top team. He is a stat padder on a bad team or a solid bench player on a good team.

They are going to regret that deal. One of the worst in the league.

$80mil for 5 years. Davis Bertans.

Detroit is on a roll....

My god! Another largely one dimensional player. This time a defensive PF with a limited offensive game. Ridiculous overpay.

$20mil per year for 3 years. Jerami Grant.

---------

These contracts remind me of when Ian Mahinmi and the likes got huge contracts that one summer when loads of teams had cap space and no long term plans.

My prediction is that Hayward can't work out a deal with another team the C's approve of, can't stomach going to the Knicks, decides to stay and we sign Baynes.

We don't lose anyone that matters. Tatum, Brown, the Williams's, Langford and Waters get a year older. Baynes covers a problem area with bigger centers. We get a bench shooter in the draft, and a backup option at point.

Not too bad, actually.

Noel is the only one I can think
Ibaka, Noel, Baynes, Thompson, WCS
Giles is also a project possibility.  I think DA has to sign someone or trade for someone to upgrade the position regardless of trading for Turner.   At list need some specialist minutes among the 5s they’ll have available.  Theis, Bob (unless 1 is gone in trade) and Turner isn’t good enough.  Among those available to sign, I guess it’s Baynes who can provide the best reliable minutes. But not a ton of minutes. Thompson and Ibaka add value. I don’t know enough about recent Noel.

Wow, I didn't think he would ever see anything like what the Knicks gave him last year, never mind more money for 4 years

My gawd! They keep getting worse. $64mil over 4 years? For Marcus Morris? The guy who helped wreck your team chemistry and derail your season?

Idiots.

No thank-you on Giles. Guy looks older than Taj Gibson when he plays. I wish there was more upside there. He seems like a likable guy, but he's not the answer for a contending team.

Per Shams, Nuggets acquiring JaMychal Green 2yr/15M (2nd year PO).

Smart move. Very good signing. Just as good a player as Jerami Grant. $7.5mil per year vs $20mil per year.

Did not like Portland signing Derrick Jones to a two year $19mil deal. He is not worth that type of cash. He is a good end of rotation player. Nothing more - at least not yet.

Portland are a desperate team with no depth / quality at the forward slots. They couldn't afford to throw away their MLE like this. They needed someone they could depend on. Not a highlight reel.
