Wasn't thrilled with the pick, but I have an open mind. He definitely fills a need.
Given Nesmith's lack of other skills he has to be that 40+ 3P%-shooter to justify his draft position though.

Great shooter, moves well off the ball, doesn’t need the ball to be effective, long wingspan...

Wow! Sounds like a perfect fit for the C’s! If he can defend and put that frame to use, I’d be very pleased. With JT, Kemba and JB, we don’t need a slasher or creator. We need someone who can make them look good by being a terrific outlet.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Not necessarily my goal at #14 (I don't even know what my goal was going into the draft tbh), but there is a lot to be optimistic about here. I read on Reddit that Jerry Stackhouse wached him go 91 out 100 in the 5x20 3-pt shooting drill three days ago. NINETY-ONE OUT OF ONE-HUNDRED!! I remember when we were all so excited in 2016 when Jamal Murray hit 79/100 or when Jaylen hit 76/100. It might have just been a practice three days ago, but 91/100 is just totally insane.

Add in the fact that he has good length, height, and athleticism, along with a solid head on his shoulders and this could really work out for us. He also has worked out quite a bit with Kris Middleton in the past. I think we would all be pretty happy with a player like Kris at #14.

Also wanted to point out this salivating picture of Nesmith's shot chart.
Incorporate the decision-making, off-ball movement and foul drawing moves of Reggie Miller into that shooting and we'll have a stud

Considering that everyone is treating a player on our squad who's around Middleton's level like the best thing since sliced bread, we'll probably go crazy if Nesmith becomes a Middleton level wing.

I am very happy with Nesmith at 14.  Smart, elite shooter (at least so far), athletic enough, some length.  I thought he would be picked before this.  But who knows.

The only other option at 14 was Hampton.

Nesmith is a fine choice. Best thing Danny did yesterday was picking him, 2nd-40th best things he did was not basketball related.

If Nesmith is our version of Middleton we're going to the Finals.

Come on people, pump the breaks.

Middleton is more athletic
Middleton is a better playmaker
Middleton is a better ball handler
Middleton is a SUPERIOR defender,

He is more Alec Burk than Middleton.

Ceiling Korver/Reddick with defense that’s ok - not somebody you want on the other team’s best player, but good enough that he won’t get hunted/picked on.

Wow. Just so many things here. I agree that Nesmith is probably not as good a prospect as Middleton, but I don't mind the comparison.

Middleton is better at those things because he's been an NBA player for years. As a prospect he was not more athletic, a better ball handler, or a superior defender. As a sophomore Middleton averaged 14, 5, and 3 on 45/36/78 shooting splits.

Nesmith is probably already a better shooter than Burks ever will be.

I like the "bigger Buddy Hield" comparison. One real concern is his playmaking, but honestly, we need shot finishers not shot creators in our offense. It'd feel good to have someone that can reliably play off of Tatum without needing the ball in his hands a lot.

Bigger, stronger, JJ Redick?

That'd be nice.

That seems a fair comparison.
