Right now NEsmith is our 6th man, and deservedly so.

Kid knows what works for him, he is smart, he is long and can get that shot off.

IMO he is a better prospect than Tyler Herro

If Hayward is gone I'd look at starting Nesmith or Langford. Like to have a vet presence off the bench right now that leaves only Smart unless we sign a vet wing or something.

I go with either Smart or Grant WIlliams as the 4th starter (assuming Hayward is gone)

Smart bring elite defense to help cover for Kemba, Grant brings headiness and toughness and playmaking to the PF spot. Need a glue guy on the floor and I think that Grant fills that.

ROmeo is a long ways away and Nesmith will need to learn the nba at least a little. I think playing off of Smart will be good for him.

But if danny decides to start Nesmith, then I trust him

If we were to complete the rumored trade (Hayward for Turner), I’d consider starting Nesmith.

Kemba/Brown/Nesmith/Tatum/Turner

Then you use the MLE on a vet PG who can score to go alongside Smart, Langford, Theis, and Grant Williams (don’t want to rely on a second rookie in Pritchard).

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Nesmith pretty clearly projects to be this team's starting SG or SF (whatever Brown isn't playing) in due time. A lot of people don't like taking players who aren't Freshmen since you want the most potential possible, but having a two-year guy like Nesmith kind-of hits that sweet spot of potential and ability to contribute now.

In 5 years, he may not be the best player from this draft, but I'd be very surprised if he isn't better than at least 5 players taken in front of him. With his shooting, measurables, and attitude, he would really have to fall off a cliff to totally bust.

If he demonstrates the ability to defend his position, I'm all for this. I think it would help Tatum and Brown get into the flow of the game if the court is more open in the early minutes of the 1st.

The thing I can't figure out is a player that can create some offense as the 3rd guard. I'm not a Burks fan. I think most of the other guards available are washed up or overqualified (ala Hayward) to be a backup/4th/5th option.

That's why I'm more in support of using the MLE to just get a shooter like Harris or Bertans (if we can). It'd be pretty awesome to have another veteran shooter and rotation player on this team, even if we were relying heavily on Walker, Brown, and Tatum (with some help from Smart) for playmaking.

Its the Defense.

I am not a fan of him beside Kemba as i think his defense will be a solid, but not good enough to make up for the weakness that we get from having Kemba as the PG.

Nesmith will hold his own
Kemba is a minus and needs all plus defenders to try and cover for him.

Smart
Nesmith
Brown
Tatum

I love that

I watched a scouting video on Nesmith and one of his weaknesses was finishing (around the rim/going to the basket). The video showed a dozen or so examples. He seemed to score in most of the examples. I take that as a good sign.

Stackhouse came on Zo and Beetle yesterday

He said Nesmith will help. But his defense was "improving" before injury

If I was Brad I would assign Smart to kick Nesmith and Pritchard azz on D end.  Throw in Semi, Waters and Grant Williams. And show them tough love early.

This is one way to accelerate learning.

That is kind of expected but it’s also quite possible that 10 guys taken after him are better than him... also Danny has hit some extremes in the 1st round where all players are better than his draftee but I don’t think this will happen to Neismith

Nesmith is going to fill a role for this team for a while that the C's have not had since Ray Allen.  A professional shooter.  We have good shot makers but no one on the C's is a professional shooter.  Not Kemba, Tatum no one.  A professional shooter is Korver, Ray Allen, JJ Redick, Reggie Miller, Petrovic, Klay.  The C's have had good shooters and good scores but no one whose greatest skill was shooting.  Nesmith is a sniper and will bury you if you leave him open.  Nesmith will at minimum be a JJ Redick.  I believe he can play better D and if he can improve his handles like Jaylen has over the last three years then they will have a really really good starting SG.  People laugh at the gym rat comment CBS made but this to me shows he will put in the work like JB did to become a better ball handler and scorer from all 3 levels.  I'm very excited about him.  More then most.  Outside of Haliburton this is the guy I wanted most.  He's going to really help on the 2nd unit and allow the C's to finally have someone from the bench that can score.

Reddick is a prolific 3 pt shooter and clutch.... so thats a big shoe to fill

I would say Covington is a decent comparison/ceiling.

Yeah, the more I watch of Nesmith the more I like. He can do more than shoot and if he really fine tunes his game he could be a really solid NBA starter. He will change the floor when he plays. The biggest problem in the playoffs last summer was not making teams pay for all then double teams. This kid will make them pay.

true but I have to say I thought of Jj reddick as well when looking at his skill set. If nesmith  can just knock down a couple 3s a game, we are good. Thompson/theis/brown/smart/or tatum can hopefully hide him on defense for the time being
