If this trade gets Giannis to re-sign, it was worth it.

But man, that’s a lot of risk.  If things go badly, they could be looking at no Giannis, no Jrue and no picks going forward.

Yeah, my valuation of this deal basically just comes down to Giannis signing an extension or re-signing next summer. 3 late picks for Jrue+Giannis isn't bad, but 3 picks+2 swaps for a Milwaukee team without Giannis would be a disaster.

I gotta say, I've been impressed with how well Griffin has done in NO. There's no way they could have traded Jrue for a haul like this last summer.
I'm bitter.

Ingram and Zion are great centerpieces. Now they’ve got a whole bunch of draft capital to go with it.

Obviously the fear there is that the teams who owe them picks could well be living in the 25-30 range of the draft, but definitely well done by him.

Great addition to the Bucks, but I wonder if decimating their future draft capital will actually be a deterrent to Giannis signing another long-term deal. You are basically signaling that you're willing to go all in now in exchange for being competitive in the future.

Agree with others that I hate the Jrue deal for MIL on the surface - Bledsoe/Hill for Jrue is almost a wash for an expiring Jrue w/o the 1sts, but, yeah, so so worth it if it gets Giannis to re-sign. You literally do whatever it takes to keep Giannis.

The one that really hurts as a Cs fan is the Bogdan trade. DD is a decent player, but it MIL hit this one out of the park - even got him on a good deal, too. I suppose the fact that we as a FA made a difference here, but it really makes these deals even out a bit. The one good part is it likely means SAC holds on to Hield and doesn't trade him to PHI for Horford/pieces.

I like Jrue instead of Bledsoe for the Bucks.

Jrue will not disappear in the playoffs.

3 firsts with 2 swap rights is pretty steep. If this doesn’t work this season for Milwaukee and Giannis still leaves, this has all the makings of the Nets disastrous trade with us. This could absolutely decimate their foreseeable future.

Considering they aren’t a free agent destination, they really are pushing all in on their trio. Gutsy move, but something they probably have to do to retain Giannis.

Best part is that Jrue is going to be a free agent next year, too, and he's going to be looking for big money again for one last big contract. He could very well walk next year.
If Giannis signs the supermax, the Bucks won't really care if Holiday leaves after the year.  I mean they will care obviously, but if they keep Giannis for 6 more years and have a better shot at the title this season, you make the trade every single time without a second thought.  They have to keep Giannis though.

Sure but Giannis is not dumb. I can't see him re-signing if Jrue walks and they are left with an empty chest of draft picks on top of it. They would need a miracle to legitimately contend then even with Giannis.
Giannis will be offered the supermax in a week.  He will either sign it or he won't.  Holiday's free agent decision the following summer will be a thing in the past.

Not necessarily. Giannis actually has two windows to take super max. Before the season AND after the season. Just not during the season.
I know, but I fully expect him to sign it after the Holiday move and now certainly after Bogdanovic.

Holiday is significantly better than Bledsoe and Hill and Hill's shooting is easily replaced.

So assuming they bring back their bench free agents from last year (or most of them anyway)

Starters - Holiday, Middleton, Bogdanovic, Giannis, Lopez
Bench - Justin James, Marvin Williams, Pat Connaughton, Sterling Brown, Kyle Korver, Frank Mason, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Dragan Bender

Add a couple of ring chasing vets and their team rounds out pretty well.  Not as deep as last year, but a much better starting 5 replacing Bledsoe and Matthews with Holiday and Bogdanovic and they still have some solid bench guys in Williams, Connaughton, Brown, and Korver.

Calling those guys "solid bench guys" is really stretching it. Korver and Williams are on retirement's doorstep, and Connaughton and Brown shouldn't even be in the rotation of a good team. This team is it's starting 5, and nothing more. Even so, that may very well work because of how good that starting 5 is.

I had forgotten Williams retired. Seems odd, he is just 33 and played fairly well for the Bucks last year.

Korver is one of the top 5 greatest shooters in history.  He is still that good as a shooter.  He played 16 mpg last year.  He can easily do that again, making him a very valuable bench player, especially situationally.  Connaughton is a very solid well rounded bench guard.  Doesn't do anything elite, but doesn't hurt you either.  Good for 20 mpg a game, where he might not win you a game, but he won't lose you a game either, and can fill in as a starter here and there.  Brown will be in his 4th year, has shown some flashes and has been a consistent rotation player for the Bucks.  Not great, but certainly in the vein of all kinds of bench players.

Not a great bench, but guys that will be good enough if they can add 1 or 2 guys with the MLE that are a bit better.  A guy like Rondo would be great on their bench, for example.

Nope, he made it official.

Too bad, too.  I’d take both him and fellow retired Heel Vince Carter for our deep bench.

Brown wasn't even in the rotation come playoff time, and relying on grandpa Korver to be a consistent bench player isn't very smart. Sorry, not buying that this bench is anything but bad at the moment.

I feel like its worth saying again and again that the Bucks traded three first round picks and two pick swaps for Holliday.

The Pelicans have absolutely played their roster right over the last few years to extract the most possible value.
