RIP Tommy. I know the network started transitioning from Tommy Heinsohn due to his health, but watching Celtics games will never be the same again. He represented Celtics pride like no other. I obviously hope the Celtics do something in recognition, but I also hope the league as a whole does so as well.

This gave me a chuckle.  From the Globe:

Quote
Mr. Heinsohn would score 12,194 points during his career, averaging nearly 19 a game despite his habit of smoking cigarettes in the locker room before games and during halftime.

He also loved Miller Lite.  Always had a great sense of humor. These commercials are legendary:

Wow.  This really saddens me.

I met Tommy as a kid back in 1968 at Sam Jones basketball camp. Tommy was a camp counsellor. We were all scared to death of him, but for no good reason. Just such a big presence.

Never saw him play, but was obviously worthy of Hall of Fame.

Loved him as a coach, when we won two championships in the 70's with Hondo, Cowens and Jo Jo.  Now only Cowens is left. Sad.

And his broadcasting was as great in homerism as his radio predecessor, Johnny Most.  Wasn't a Celtic Tommy didn't love and pump up.  Nor a ref he thought well of.

Rest in Peace, Tommy.  We love you and will miss you greatly.

This RIGHT HERE sums up what a "Tommy Point" is, to me.

Been a diehard C's fan since 1981, joined the blog in 2009 but had no idea of a "Tommy Point", until I saw this video.

Tommy Points are UNIQUE....there are no - say - "Magic" points (LAL)...."Kobe" Points.......

But TOMMY POINTS exist and are valid.

Love ya, Tommy.

Oh no! Terrible news. Tommy has part of the Celtics experience for as long as I can remember. I wasn’t born yet when he played and coached, so it was as a broadcaster that I remember him. I will miss his insights and his unabashed support for the team. Condolences to his family and may he Rest In Peace. Certainly a life well lived and well loved.

He lived a good long life especially for a guy who didn't seem to worry too much about living the healthiest lifestyle, haha.

Very sad that he's gone.  Will always remember Mike and Tommy on the broadcast.  Greatest duo of all time calling games.  Huge bummer that we don't get to hear him griping about the refs anymore (I mean that sincerely).

Truly a huge loss for the Celtics family. No one, I mean no one bled green like this man. going to miss his voice, miss him getting mad at the refs, and miss all the Tommy points given out.

RIP Tommy

I never have known Celtics Basketball without Tommy Heinsohn.  He'll be missed and never replaceable.

OMG, no.  I suspected he was in ill health this season but this is still a shock.  such a sad day in Celtic Nation.  Needless to say, the biggest Tommy Point ever to Tommy himself.

Nah, those will be around as long as this forum is.  In fact, I just gave every single one of you who posted in this thread one just now in his memory.
