Boston Celtics select Danny Granger pick 6.8

Granger will provide good cover for Durant at SF while Durant rests and maybe play together in some small ball forward combinations with Durant at PF.

I wanted a strong outside shooting SF to maintain style of play.
You're really doubling down on building an offence that will tear anything that's not elite defensively apart, are you

Yup  ;D

Complete opposite of what I intended to do entering the draft but that is usually the way it goes for me. Bad at sticking to my initial plan. Getting Nash in the 2nd round changed everything. I was going for a two way defensive minded center before that. Lots of defensive minded two way players around the Durant aka the great scorer of this generation.
That offence is going to give me heart attacks lol. At least I can pick on Nash and one of the Gasol brothers (assuming you'll start Sheed against me)

I still remember the game where he scored 16 for us iirc - it was his debut I think?

Rajon Rondo

With the amazing chemistry we briefly saw between prime Rondo and 38-year-old Shaq, the Jazz are salivating at the potential connections between prime Rondo and prime 10 years younger Shaq.

Oh boy I was watching tape of '09 Rondo and KG a while ago (those connections were nuts), this is a nice pick.

Some great picks so far.

After round 4, I felt a team of Deron Williams, Allen Iverson, Andrei Kirilenko, and Blake Griffin would have been competitive in this thing.  I think that team with a defensive oriented center, would have played perfectly to Iverson's strengths and would have been essentially a much better version of the Sixers that AI actually led to the Finals.  I get AI is a bit difficult to craft a team round, but he was just so good that season.  Led the league in scoring and steals, shot 32% from 3 (so not terrible) and got to the line for just over 10 foul shots a game.  You put him next to a big, excellent shooting PG like Williams, a do it all player like AK and an athletic freak of nature at PF, and I think that team would have challenged any team.  AI was just so difficult to guard.  Team would have needed a Mutumbo like center, but there are several of that type of center available to fill out that starting 5.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

This defense is just so fantastic. Lebron, Klay, Gerald, with Gobert behind them. So many players that can cover your opponent's full lineup. Peak Wallace is a great glue guy.

Edit: Ah, your sign has both Ray and Klay. Nevermind. Still super strong, though.
2023 Historical Draft: Toronto Raptors

Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger

Center: Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka

Not a fan of the Rondo pick for Utah, as I view Rondo as just a smaller version of Kidd. Especially in these historical drafts, with so much talent available, I'd want the bench PG to be able to come in and provide a different look, not the same look.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I'm not sure a team like the one AI took to the Finals is a very good team in this exercise. That team was either the worst or second worst team to reach the Finals these last two decades.

But for a team built with middle round parts,  it would be a good team.

well that team is significantly better than the Sixers.  I was just meaning it would be a team set up to AI's strengths.  AI is one of the more talented players the league has ever seen.  His skill set is hard to account for in this type of setting, but I think that team would have captured it and I believe AI, Deron, and Blake were all talent-wise taken way too low.  They all should have been 3rd round or better in this.  AK went around where he should have, I just think he fit perfectly with those 3.

Flashback to 2016! The Cavs just pulled off the most impressive comeback in NBA history. Lebron may have been the engine, but it would have been possible without this guy. After spending two season in Siberia (trust me, he did, I swear), he joins my team to earn a second ring. With the 11th pick in the 6th round, I pick one of the clutchest guys in the league...

Kyrie Irving!!!
